What do guys really mean when they want to go on a "break?"

I guess I wanted to get a guys point of view on this. Maybe men and women may think differently about this. This guy that I have been casually seeing told me that he want's to go on a "break." Lately, we have been getting together every week, no big deal, until last week. I asked him why and he replied, "Its just something that I want to do right now, no real reason." What did he mean by "no real reason?" By no real reason, does that mean that he just wants space and that there is no other girl involved? He just says that he doesn't care about it right now. I know women always tell us that if a guy tells a girl he wants a break, it means that he no longer is interested and wants to bang someone else, but what do the males on here think he means? And we did go on a brief break 6 months ago that didn't even last long.

It pretty much means the same thing for men. Usually means there might be someone else and they want to put you on hold in the meantime.

I've personally never done the "break" thing... I just break up if I must.

Unless he's heading to Monrovia to work on the Ebola problem, taking a break in a casual relationship is generally equivalent to experiencing more exclusively the pollen of another flower, with exclusively meaning spending more time with that flower collecting its pollen before returning. Sometimes one can flit back and forth but other times one wishes to linger and savor the pollen.

Sorry, put that into the 'birds and bees' of my generation-speak :D

Yeah, but what I don't understand is why can't he just tell me that? That there is someone else in the picture??? How hard is it tell say that? I think its better for a guy to be honest and blunt if they like someone else instead of torturing that another person by assuming and guessing? Don't guys have the balls to be honest?

My ex used to go on breaks after I disrespected her, or after a big argument.

It's not a matter of "having balls" or not. It's simply something said that facilitates whether or not they can come back to you.

It goes both for men and women, and has 0 to do with anatomical features.

Guys have the balls to be horny, and if it means going back and forth between two women versus just one....especially if there is no real commitment or exclusivity....You get the picture.
