Evening Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Why should a guy shake your hand? I mean I know this guy for a while, but I saw him recently. Seemed like he wanted to hug me, but instead he shook my hand. I was surprised. Thanks
OwMyEyeball Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Impossible to give a decent answer without having seen it go down. He may have been going in for a hug, but noticed a subtle yet undeniable change in your body position or facial expression that broadcast resistance. Otherwise there's an insecurity within him that led him to downgrade to a more neutral greeting - the handshake. The source of that insecurity could be anyone's guess. It could also be a combination of those two. 1
Assasda Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Remember this women. WOMEN, pleease remember this. Women, should always initiate hugs. Always Especially if the lady does want to hug. The owness is on you OP. Also, we can go into the fact that. Traditionally, women should also be the first ones to initiate HANDSHAKES with men. Those days have past, but you get the drift.

Assasda Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Really? Yup. Its one of those etiquette things. Just FYI. Ofcourse if 2 people have been friends for a while, hugging may be 2nd nature But, when the lines are blurred, women should be the ones to make that choice
Redhead14 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I hug the guy almost instinctively while thanking him for the date . . . if I like him enough. If I don't really like him, I'll thank him and say I've enjoyed our time together, but I don't think we are a good match. End of story.
d0nnivain Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Men shake hands when they meet. It's not something women do. We hug or kiss. When I started working in a male dominated field, I had to learn to shake hands because that was the norm. Some men carry over that male business greeting to women they interact with in a social setting because it feels normal / comfortable to them & is a non-threatening way to break the touch barrier. If he was shaking your hand goodbye at the end of the night -- as opposed to in greeting -- I'd be more concerned. Here it may just be his way.
