Hi Guys,

This may come across as a stupid question & i thought i already knew the answer until i was told by a few people that BF could also mean Best friend instead of Boyfriend.

Been talking to this girl and she said during a convo that she's "got the bf over next week". I assumed it means Boyfriends so i was gonna leave it as that and not bother with her anymore until i was told it could also mean Best friend.

Just a bit confused now!

Ask her...could be either, or.

Yeah i was thinking about that but i kinda ended the convo as soon as she said that so i feel abit stupid randomly going "oh when you said bf did you mean boyfriend or bestfriend" guess i'll have to figure a way of slipping it in.

"So, what plans have you got for when your BF's around next week?" If it's not clear from her response to that, then, "So, do I get to hang with you and your BF next week?"

BF means boyfriend. I never heard of BF used as "best friend." Usually, people would actually type that out (or perhaps use "bestie").

I've only ever heard a girl say "bf" and mean best friend one time. And I found that out because I asked "oh, you have a boyfriend?" In every other instance it's meant boyfriend. It is NOT common for a girl to refer to her best friend as bf. You should assume the worst, but verify for yourself just in case.

BF is usually boyfriend and BFF is bestfriend.

But yeah, just ask. If you have interest in her, tell her you were going to ask her out but aren't sure if that BF meant boyfriend or bestfriend.

If it's bestfriend the door is wiiiiiiiiiide open to ask her out lol

Same here, I always thought it meant boyfriend, until one time when I met this girl at uni, asked for her Facebook, we started chatting and flirting, she was definitely interested...

And then one day she didn't respond to a message, and after a few hours she apologized and said she was "out with her bf, and since it's not polite to check her phone, she couldn't respond".

I was kinda surprised that she just brought that up out of nowhere (since her FB relationship status was SINGLE), and I just didn't respond to that message and dropped it.

A few weeks later, she initiated contact, and accused me of playing with her and stuff like that, to which I was again surprised, and mentioned that bf comment she made, and she explained it meant "best friend", not "boyfriend"...

So yeah, that's how I learned it could mean both.

Ha well it is a confusing and misleading term to use sometimes. I'm glad things worked out for the better in your case! :)
