OP, I get how this would be a concern to you, especially if you are having to leave your job to move to his place in order to close the distance.

I think the key here is to separate the current circumstances from the actual core of the relationship. So, a question for you to ponder: IF he were to move to be with you instead and you didn't have to give up your job to move to him, would you be happy with him the way he is? If the answer is still 'no', I don't think there's any point in hashing out the details, the two of you just aren't compatible.
