zen2475 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 If you're interested, I've decided to conduct a very unscientific poll of my friends/family to assist me on a blog post I've been asked to write on a site where I participate as an ersatz counsellor. Specifically, I want to discuss the false dichotomy of the alpha/beta male. As the story typically goes, there are two types of men: “Alpha” males are those at the top of the social status hierarchy. They have greater access to power, money, and mates, which they gain through physical prowess, intimidation, and domination. Alphas are typically described as the “real men.” In contrast are the “Beta” males: the weak, submissive, subordinate guys, and only get access to mates once women decide to settle down and go searching for a “nice guy.” As the expression goes, when all you have is a hammer, all you see are nails. So I wish to examine the link between so-called “alpha” behaviors, such as dominance, strength, and maybe economic status, and those qualities which are purportedly ascribed to "beta" behaviors, such as sensitivity, being less competitive, and maybe even those who are more intellectual and culturally cultivated. So, if you will indulge me, please let loose and tell me what you think makes a true man. Your names, locations, etc., will not be published, and I'm only doing this from an anonymous, editorial perspective. If you choose to respond, I appreciate your participation.
Assasda Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Alpha males Dont have to be physcially strong There are guy that are not physcially strong, or big guys, but they have a pressence when they're in the room. Confidence, is the name of the game And alpha males can definately be smart and intelectual. Beta Males, lack confidence, and behave like doormats 1

Confidence, is the name of the game And alpha males can definately be smart and intelectual. Beta Males, lack confidence, and behave like doormats Good point here, also you are not locked into being an alpha or a beta male. Your choices, learning from experience and picking yourself up when you are down are alpha qualities. I was a very unconfident, shy child. Not now I'm an adult. The reason being that I climbed that gruelling mountain of trying to shed my own insecurities. Assasda is 100% on the money - its all confidence. Although things like building your own physique and taking pride in it can boost your confidence as well Edited October 14, 2014 by quidproquo89 mistake 1
