frozengirl Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I've always thought whenever someone texts messages you, or emails you, or messages you and has the "...." in the sentence it's never a good thing. Like for example "Hi...Whats up?" Or "Hey...I've been busy" among other wording's. What are your thoughts on the whole "...." do you think it means like good or bad thing?
Tik Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Nothing. Thats the problem with texts messages is it hides emotion so you do not know what is wrong or good. If there's something wrong then call otherwise if it's just a normal conversation, assume all is good.
acrosstheuniverse Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 If it's in the middle of a sentence it means nothing (although I don't use it, a comma is fine). If it's at the end, the other person is clearly leaving a pregnant pause or waiting for you to respond and so it may have a little more meaning behind it. People say 'so what, it's just a text!' but at the end of the day, if you've been seeing someone a while and texting regularly, you get to know their style. It may sound crazy to people who don't text but I know for example if I'm texting my boyfriend and I'm pissed about something I'm more likely to put a full stop at the end of the text before the kisses than if I'm not! And in old relationships it would always be three kisses to say goodbye, if they were missing then something was afoot. People are generally consistent I think. There's a poster here who uses them multiple times in every sentence, between words, between sentences, between paragraphs, just instead of any punctuation mark. It makes it really really difficult for me to read but everyone has their own style.
d0nnivain Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 It's a punctuation mark -- the ellipses. It is how to create hesitancy in the written word. It cannot be interpreted as good or bad.

I've always considered it just a break. Like... you know when you start to say something but contemplate the thought before you spit it out. Or someone says something to you about something you find annoying, Ugh... It can be troublesome. Sometimes, when someone says something to me exciting, I respond with !... Or sometimes I just........ trail off. 1
