Gloria25 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I watch a lot of Investigation Discovery and last nite they had a special called "TalHotBlond", and without going into the details, it pretty much was like the Catfish movie - where a woman was online pretending to be someone else... Now, in Catfish, I'm not sure if "empathy" is the right word, but that's what I kinda felt about the woman in the Catfish...going online was sorta an "escape" for her and seems like she didn't manipulate and/or hurt anyone. But, in TalHotBlond, the story made me so mad cuz while the guy she was talking to also was pretending to be someone else, this female somehow manipulated this guy to do terrible stuff and she had no remorse about it. I sorta had an experience like that years ago when AOL was used to go into chatrooms and/or dating a lot. I went out with a guy who sent me a pic of him what he looked like YEARS ago. But, that was back then when I wasn't so crass and didn't demand coffee or drinks as a first date. After our first date, I politely told him that I wasn't interested in him romantically and we could be friendly. OMG, dude was blowing up my phone and even went online under different names and called me ugly, and this and that. Hence, why now a days I don't even give out my phone until I'm sure I want to see that person...and, guys are like "Well, how will I know you on the 1st date?" and I'll be like "I'll be wearing X shirt and jeans, what will you be wearing?"... So, has anyone ever been "Catfished" or "TalHotBlonded"?
gaius Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I had a woman I would talk to on a semi-regular basis turn out to be a bald, overweight freemason from Washington state. I knew his son too, that must have been completely bizarre going along with your dad going online and pretending to be a woman. He never did anything mean or manipulative so I still talked to him after he "came out". Figured it was just some repressed need he had to get out one way or another. Felt sorry for him that he had to do that actually. =/ That sounds like it sucked Gloria but don't let one douchebag influence what you do with everyone else to that level. =/ I've had women who wouldn't give me any trust at all for a good amount of time and it always kind of gives the relationship a poisonous dynamic. 1
Trane Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 The reasons expressed by the OP are exactly why I prefer to put my balls on the line, look that women in the eye, say hello and hope for the best. What you see is what you get. The profile in the flesh without the monitor, motherboard and hard drive. 1

I know.....cuz, with the TalHotBlond, I was like "ummm, at what point was this guy gonna do a video chat with this person?", but then again, he was faking...But, then again, one guy was driving to another state to meet her and then changed his mind. Well, I guess he rather spend money on gas w/o doing a video chat first? Go figure...
