truncated Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 How can people who claim to be religious continue to make the choice to engage in behaviour that goes against the teachings of their religion? I'm not talking about an occasional slip up or mistake, but a continued pattern of behaviour. For example, I've seen some people who profess to be christian who engage in very hurtful behaviour taht is anything but christian, then say things along the lines of "it's okay, Jesus forgives me'
Dontfindme Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 People make all sorts of excuses for themselves.
BetrayedH Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Yeah, my exwife engaged in a year-long affair. And then once she was busted, got all uber-religious. Funny thing though, she kept lying about her affair and kept in touch with her affair partner. All the while, she made a point to tell me that it was God's place to judge her, not mine. I made it clear that her marital agreement and vows were with me and so I had every right to find her in breach of contract. Anyway, I can relate. Why do they do it? Heck if I know. They gotta tell themselves "something" to make them feel better about their actions, I suppose. I see my exwife as hiding behind her religion. Personally, I'm not buying what she's selling. Maybe she's buying it? I guess I'll have to go with my first answer... Heck if I know.
