I did not want to put extra stress on her during her exams and I did want to downplay it to indicate that I would not be going and give her an out.

So I told her that I do not think it would be a good time for me at the moment as I have other things going on, again none of this is a lie.

I forgot to mention...

That I said "As much as I would like to go with you, I do not think that it would be a good time for me at the moment..."

This was my way of telling her "I am still interested in you, but obviously we have not been in contact for a while, so I am going to take the pressure off you and give you an out if you no longer want to go together"

I realize I may have messed up by mentioning I had alternate option if she no longer wanted to go together and I did not intentionally want to make her angry or jealous, it was reaction to what she said and was a bit of mistake, which hopefully did not upset her too much. However I do not necessarily think so, most girls like a guy who has other options. I have noticed that she can get a bit jealous of any females in my circle, but it seems to almost excite her, she becomes a bit more aggressive, interested in me and pursues me a lot more.

I guess time will tell.

All this bullcrap. This is the problem with dating. You should have simply asked her if she was still keen to go since the two of you weren't in contact for a bit. She would've simply said yes or no and that would've been the end.
