A female co-worker and me have grown very close, we share alot of personal things together that we dont tell others, both going through tough times of late.

We joke alot together but lately i'm not sure if she likes me more as a friend. There's a large age gap, I'm 9 years older but she does things that im unsure about.

I asked her once if she wanted to go out sometime, she had a scared/awkward look on her face. I quickly pointed out I meant as a work group and we joked about it after. She still jokes about it to other collegues like when we are together she will say 'when are you taking me out then Josh?' even infront of her friends (that I dont know) which makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Also we were chatting to a few collegues in the office and someone asked her a question and she wasnt listening, she started looking at this other girl and started laughing and then said 'sorry I was looking at your (me) eyes and was not listening'.

To me that kinda seems a obvious sign but then she was ok telling everyone else what she was looking at hence not trying to hide it and feel embarassed.

She's very open and caring person hence why I wonder if there's nothing to it and she's just a bit naive maybe?

I'd say, leave it alone and don't try it.

Specially if this is a co-worker at a job that is part of your career versus "just a job".

Her giving you a scared/awkward look is MORE of a sign than her saying something about your eyes.

This is typical coworker bonding. The emotional attachment can be intense, but it's not sexual, which a lot of men tend to interpret it as such. Stop thinking she is mackin on ya, she is not. If she is going through a tough time, she is just using you as her emotional tampon.
