I've got a date Saturday with this amazing girl I've been talking to for awhile. We actually hung out briefly earlier in the week, so this technically won't be the first time I see her. I was wondering - what should I bring her (if anything) on the first date? I have a feeling flowers may be too much, so if you can offer any suggestions, that would be great. I just never like to be empty-handed. Thanks!

Well, some do and others don't. Like, when I met my last ex, I brought her flowers - but I also talked to her for two years before we started dating. I have a feeling it's a case-by-case thing.

ah thats sweet, not really normal over here tho.

the guy i married picked me a rose from someones front garden on the way to an early date.......does that count? lol

No, no flowers or anything for 1st date. You don't want to scare her away. Maybe she will like the thought or she may think your moving too fast. Either way, too risky.

If you really must send her flowers then do it after the date. Send it the next day to her home or work with a little note saying " I really enjoyed our time together. I am looking forward to seeing you again." - Yes it's cheesy but if you want to be the romantic type then you can try this. ;) Oh, and pick assorted flowers (not alot) not roses. Trust me on this.

Ok, thanks. I trust your judgment and won't bring anything. And I definitely like the next-day flowers idea because I am a big romantic. And I know not to go for roses - those are reserved for a serious relationship.

That is so sweet! Most guys would never think to do this.

If i was dating a guy and i really liked him, being given a flower stolen from someones garden would be cute- in my books anyway :p

But yes, gifts, flowers etc on the first date might be a little much but VERY romantic..depends on the kind of girl she is i guess.

I like the post-1st-date flowers idea though

Does she like a certain candy? My bf knew I loved fun-dips and I hadn't been able to find or eat any in a while so for our first date he brought me a fun dip and I thought it was the cutest thing.

The guy I am kind of seeing brought me a piece of vegan chocolate cake that he made. And it was damn good. That was really cute. It was the...er...3rd time we hung out.

Well, WWIU, by taking something like a present on the first few dates what ICE is saying is that he himself is not enuf for her and he needs embellishment for her to like him.

My rule is if first 3 dates go well then I may take her something small for date # 4. Like a 6-piece box of Godiva chocolate ($10) or a small bunch of mixed flowers ($15).

The larger gifts are usually saved until i've been dating her for 3 or 4 months and I'm getting some hot 'n heavy action.

This girl is a pure sweetheart. I'm sure she would like a stuffed animal or something.

Play it cool the first date.

If a guy was showing up with stuff for me on the first date. It might raise a little red flag about being too keen and eager.

Make sure you do the more important things like being a gentlemen as far as getting the car doors, getting the doors, help with the coat and chairs, etc.

That would make a better impression on me.

Then bringing her a little present of some kind is just a nice thing to do and I'm sure she'd love it.

The first thing I will say when I meet her is, "I'm ready for a little oral jousting - are you?" Oral always makes for a good icebreaker.

Ummm.. I don't recommend doing that on the first date iceisles.

I mean it's a cute idea and everything, but the timing is not right (yet....)

Reminds me tho, of something romantic a b/f did a few years ago. We worked for the same corporation - different departments...and yes, no one needs to remind me how dating someone from work is a mistake - I learned my lesson.

One dreary, rainy Monday morning I arrived at my desk, and still half-asleep I blindly reached for the drawer on my right where I kept all my pens and stuff.

Instead of feeling the usual tray of my office supplies - I felt a soft, fuzzy thing.

I looked and saw the most most adorable, little, stuffed animal.

He had gotten to work early I guess, and placed it where I least expected. What a sweet surprise! I was delighted, it brightened my whole day.

You will have future opportunities to do the same kind of gestures, iceisles, girls LOVE that kinda stuff.

Just wait a bit, okay? :bunny:

Yeah, I won't do anything this time. I honestly don't think she would mind, but I will play this safe.
