This might sound like an odd question to you but its something that has crossed by mind out of my own paranoia because I had a girl finish with me over me behaving immaturely and weak.

You know how at the start, or before the beginning of a romantic relationship; two people follow a list of dating 'rules' in order to keep the person interested and avoid making dating 'mistakes' that will turn off the other person?

- Does this need to carry on months, even years into a relationship?- basically, never letting your guard down or forgetting to maintain your 'value' in your partners' eyes?

By this, I mean playing it cool. Not being needy or overly emotional and always displaying other attractive traits such as ambition and independence, without ever showing any weaknesses or having mental/emotional issues that make you seem weak.

Lets face it, two life partners will experience a life together and ups and downs will undoubtedly come… But does this mean that unless you keep up these acts forever, your partner will lose attraction and interest in you?

if you hav eto put on an act that woman isnt right for you...it should feel natural and comfortable.....what i have found is guys will say what i want to hear and then six months down the track after this seemingly perfect guy reverts......and it isnt good i am talking traits i cant handle come to the surface like cheating or abuse....in the honey moon period or wooing all is sweet ...

so in saying that i think if you have really bad traits you hide....of course they will come out....i dont think independence is a bad trait...i dont think being affectionate and wanting affection is a bad trait..abusive behaviors should not come out at all after a guy feels comfortable enough to let it all hang out.......i do believe honesty and being direct with who you are what you believe in and what you dont believe in or follow principles of, should be bought to the table from the first date...i dont believe any guy or woman fro that matter should manipulate someone into loving a person when they arent really that person the person falls for..it really messes with trust..........deb

No, I do not know that at all. I think if you're doing these things then you're doing it totally wrong. You should be yourself. If you make "mistakes" that put them off then they are not the right person for you anyway. Better to find out now rather than in 6 months when you stop acting.

Precisely, this is why you should not act in the first place.
