Million.to.1 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I really hate hearing these.... "She's off the market" - Apparently, you can purchase her. HP! With 12 months interest free! "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?" - She’s not a cow. And the milk's not for you. "Treat them mean, keep them keen" - It totally works. Not. "Make an honest woman out of her" - Turns out, honesty is based on sexual activity inside marriage and not the ability to keep one’s word. Who knew? "Sloppy seconds" - Odds are anyone you have sex with who is 18 or older, isn’t a virgin. Get used to it. "A lady on the streets but a freak in the sheets" Because double standards are so awesome. Anybody else got any? 7
Tbisb74 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) See my post #2 in this thread and my post (#4) also here. Gender prejudice will always be prevalent in a society organised, orchestrated and governed by men. It stands to reason. It's always been that way, and always will be, because that's the way matters are still permitted to be. And women will always continue to be viewed for what services they can provide, rather than the people they are. And I will be branded a man-hating feminist for these comments, when in actual fact, I'm merely pointing out what is true, obvious and prevalent. I don't hate men. I hate the ideas, notions and beliefs that are perpetuated in the minds of men which they choose to accept as natural, when in fact they are inhuman, obscene and plain wrong. Tbisb74 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 You need to read the article link in my post. Everyone should, it's utterly spot on. (There it is, again....) And I found it AFTER I posted. I inserted it as an edit. 2

Anybody else got any? The Shriver Report ? 19 Phrases that Dehumanize Women, I kind of think you should have referenced it... 3
Ninjainpajamas Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 If those are the worst things you've heard men say, then I'd say you're doing pretty well. 6
Robert Z Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Gender prejudice will always be prevalent in a society organised, orchestrated and governed by men. It stands to reason. It's always been that way, and always will be, because that's the way matters are still permitted to be. Women show just as much if not more gender prejudice towards men. As for McCain, what a pos! That is a terrible thing to say. I used to think he was a good guy; up until he insulted Chelsea Clinton and called her ugly when she was something like 13 years old. 1

Author Million.to.1 Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 The Shriver Report ? 19 Phrases that Dehumanize Women, I kind of think you should have referenced it... You're right. I actually read another article which was clearly copied from this one. No one reads links though. that's why i just picked out my favourites. If those are the worst things you've heard men say, then I'd say you're doing pretty well. They're certainly not the worst things, but they are common terms and socially acceptable. There is a big difference. And Somedude.... Could you please put me back on your ignore list. Thanks.
Author Million.to.1 Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Also when I was with a now ex years ago, we were out at a party and he introduced me to a friend of his. 'Milly, this is Fred, Fred, this is Milly, my girlfriend" Fred then said to my BF "oh, you got yourself an upgrade!" - referring to me as an upgrade from my boyfriends previous GF. I suppose it was meant to be a compliment, but I was really just embarrassed for him. 2

This is just proving her point if other men are saying... this isn't even the worst of it. Objectification of women is so accepted that it is minimized as normal instead of stopped. 4

Author Million.to.1 Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 I once knew a woman who described her rich husband as her "meal ticket" because he made enough money that she didn't have to work. I have heard countless women refer to the father of their children as their "sperm donor." People are going to insult others, it's just the nature of things. A lot of it, like calling your wife the "old ball and chain" is generally done in a good natured way. I don't get upset about things like this. By posting this thread, I wasn't suggesting that woman aren't capable of the same sort of thing. I'm not trying to start a gender war. But, if my partner ever referred to me as "the old ball and chain" even in jest, I would give him his freedom. And I have told him so. I don't like the term, and I don't like couples who bag each other out to other people. It never sounds good. Just my opinion. 1
