masked_man Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Well I was at the local supermarket earlier on, and a (check out) girl working there, who I've chatted with quite a bit over the last year, decided to give me a staff discount on my grocery bill. I only noticed this a few hours later when, just as I was about to throw the docket away, I saw the words "staff discount" emblazened on the docket. While having a rather jovial chat with her when I was at the check out, I had noticed her swiping a card of some sort through the scanner, but didn't think much of it at the time. It must have been her staff card. It's not exactly the sort of thing that happens often. At least to me. Should I sent her a "thank you" email or IM? Alphamale, what would you do in this situation?
Pocky Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 You have the email and IM name for the girl the local grocery store?
d'Arthez Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 As she is not in the position to express her possible interest in you during working hours, especially when there are a lot of people at the check-outs, this is one of the few ways to express interest in you, without the whole store knowing it. Of course you don't want to get into trouble because of this, so discretion is a must. You can return the favor next time you are shopping from groceries. Before you go to the store you write a short note. Chose your words depending on your interest level. If you are not interested something like a 'thank you.' If you are interested in her, give her your number. She'll know what to do. And if she does not call, you still have the discount on your groceries.
Hund1976 Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Well if you already have her email address I'm guessing you talk to her a lot, I've never been out shopping and had the following conversation. Sales girl "did you find everything okay?" Me "yes" Sales girl "that will be $7.86 please" Me "here you go" Sales girl "Thank you for shopping at Shop-Rite, here's my email address in case you have any questions" Anyway I would write her an email and thank her for the discount and be a little flirty in it and see what she writes back.

And don't give her a note or card. Her giving you the staff discount means she want you to keep on comin' back. There may be some other "staff discounts" in your future, if you know what I mean, heh heh...
Author masked_man Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 Hey thanks all for your feedback. You have the email and IM name for the girl the local grocery store? Not quite. But I do have her blog address. On that there is a contact IM addy. Anyway I would write her an email and thank her for the discount and be a little flirty in it and see what she writes back. I'll probably go in that direction. The thing is time is running out, one, she only works at the supermarket on weekends, and two, as she has graduated from her uni degree course she is looking for a graduate job. She told me a few weeks back that as soon as she finds something she would quit the supermarket job immediately. If she gets a job offer tomorrow, she might not be there next weekend! I will have to move quickly whatever I do. Her giving you the staff discount means she want you to keep on comin' back. There may be some other "staff discounts" in your future, if you know what I mean, heh heh... Well that's what I'm hoping anyway Thanks again!
