LuvsTrucks2 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Greetings LS, I'm am going to meet a new guy tomorrow night and wanted to bring something small for him as a gift, any suggestions? I don't want to spend much, something more of a thought/remembrance. A friend of mine recently met someone and he gave her some Mardi Gras beads because he had just went there, I thought that was awesome. I'm usually pretty creative, but I'm having a block. He eats healthy and works out so food items are out.
PegNosePete Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 A gift is not really necessary for a first meet. He should have thoughts and memories of you, not what you bought him.
d0nnivain Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Don't do it. It's lame, awkward, comes across as desperate . . . Your friend may have thought it was cute. Most people would not be happy. If some guy gave me mardi gras beads on a 1st date / meet I'd be wondering if he was trying to tell me he wanted to see my boobs & that would ruin the whole thing for me. If you absolutely must make it very small: a book mark; a cookie; 3
dogeared Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Is this a first date or someone you have met before? I think it is really weird to get him a gift. 4
JungleLover Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 He drinks wine? If so, give a bottle. A nice mug or martini glass is good.

I don't understand the challenge here. You can disagree. None of these has to cost more than 10 bucks. Giving a small gift to a man on a first date won't hurt a woman but it could make them stand out. My GF brought my dog a nice chew toy on our first date and I was impressed. Rarely does a woman give me a gift in under 5 dates and almost never on the 1st one. These things are easily popped in a trunk or glove compartment.
Author LuvsTrucks2 Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 I'm thinking about not doing it, it's our first meet and not what I would characterize as an actual date. We will probably meet at a restaurant by the water and if we walk afterwards, having to carry the item might be a problem too. Thanks for the suggestions!

I think it is a more meaningful gesture guy -> gal than vice versa. The first thing he'd do is think "oh crap i didn't get her anything!". Good luck! Hope he's a keeper!
MissBee Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) I personally wouldn't bring a gift to a first meet. Unless it came up organically. The guy in your friend's case just went to NOLA so it seems like he just did it off hand and it was more of a natural thing. If you have to be racking your brain to think of something...it's not organic. He isn't expecting a gift and it's not required...so leave the gifts alone until you know him well enough to get him a gift more naturally. Edited August 13, 2014 by MissBee 1
preraph Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Absolutely not! Nothing screams desperate more than giving a gift too soon. It's not cute, it's not appropriate, and it will only freak him out. I was dating a guy 4 months and then it was his birthday so I gave him a small gift and he thought it was awfully strange. Men don't want obligation too soon and giving more than you've gotten is clearly asking for them to feel obliged. Don't do it.
