jinjin113 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) I would like opinions on some recent texts between my boyfriend and I. We have a semi long distance relationship (live an hour apart typically see each other one or two times a week) and we text on and off throughout the day daily. We are planning a trip to San Francisco in about a week and a half. This is our conversation yesterday: Me: "Everyone on my fb feed is celebrating their wedding anniversaries. Does everyone get married in the summer??" Him: "We're getting married this summer. August 16th." Me: "Oh, I didn't see that on the itinerary for our SF trip." (I copy and paste an emoji itinerary he had jokingly come up with earlier for our trip) Him: (points out one of the emojis that means general celebration and says) "here" Me: (I think he's joking around and I think when he originally typed out the emoji itinerary, he didn't intentionally put anything wedding related in there) "Ahhhh...in between fireworks and crazy ghost time. Perfect." Obviously, we joke around and are playful a lot. Those who text and are familiar with emoji might know which emojis I'm talking about. Anyway, our conversation today (the first two messages were sent simultaneously): Him: Honey... Me: I missed my staff meeting this morning. I completely forgot about it! Him: Uh oh Me: Did you need to ask me something? Him: (sends engagement ring emoji) Me: (sends the celebration emoji from yesterday) Ok, so typing this out, I feel kind of weird. Taken out of context, I guess the conversation seems kind of silly. Anyway, I'm just wondering why he keeps bringing it up. He likes to joke around and has semi joked about us getting married before once or twice. But, two days in a row? We are 31 and 32 (and we each have a kid from a previous relationship). We've been dating since January. I would say we're pretty serious. Although I love him, and get giddy at the thought of us getting married one day, it seems pretty early on. What do you guys think? Is he purely joking around? Oh, let me add that last week, while we were laying in bed, he asked me "Would you be terribly upset if you were stuck with me forever?" I said, "No, I'd be happy." Assasda Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I think he's joking around right now, But... Its definately on his mind. He's thinking about it and I think that he knows that you would like it
preraph Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 He's joking. I've had it happen to me before. But at least he's not afraid to bring it up, right?
GoBlue Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I agree that joking is one of the ways many men (me included) "stick their toes into the water" in order to broach a subject. I guess another way you can say it is that he may be "feeling you out". I think most men want to be pretty sure the answer will be "yes" before asking for their girlfriend's hand in marriage. One thing seems certain, it will all become clearer in about a week and a half. Have fun in San Francisco!
Omei Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Oh this is a easy one, its simple until he gets on a knee and asks, hes just being playful. Don't try to take them as expecting signs as it would be a big let down few months down the road with self build up and he didnt ask.
Author jinjin113 Posted August 7, 2014 Author Posted August 7, 2014 Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't get excited when thinking about the possibility that he might ask me to marry him. However, that's in the very abstract...just because that's kind of an exciting thing to think about. If he were to actually ask me right now, or very soon...I really don't know....it's very early. So, it's not like I'm building up hope or anything. I do love him very much and think we could be very happy together...but after about 8 months together (and living one hour apart during the whole time), we're still getting to know all the different aspects of each others' personalities. Since I posted this, he has brought marriage up again (again, in a joking manner of course), and he told me today that he has something "silly that might be embarrassing" planned for us on the Saturday of our trip that would take a couple of hours. No clue.
