SmartDude Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 So I have been getting into it lately with a woman who is a bit younger than me. 12 years age difference to be exact. We had been meeting up but our communications were only through texting. And then a miracle happened... She actually called me(but hung up right away lol). So I called her back right away cause I saw that it was her number. It was so nice to hear her voice! I was just absolutely amazed that she took a risk and called me. It was really sweet because she felt awkward about calling me but did it anyway. To all you younger women who are dating older guys...Please try this. Use the phone for talking. I am totally going to pursue her now hehe. Before I was really on the fence because I had been in situations were a woman would only communicate through texting, and it just was a drag for communication. 4
ja123 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 In general, I think it's nice to call, especially when you're getting to know someone. IMO, texts should be limited to confirming a date, to saying I'm 5 minutes late. Also, phone calls can actually help you assess compatibility and interest early on, so you don't get your hopes up and waste time with ambiguous texts. 1
Beachead Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Hey Smartdude, I totally agree with you. I can't stand text conversations. I think they're a big waste of those special moments you have getting to know somebody because you miss out on all the little things you get to see and hear in that person when you talk to them. Phone calls assess compatibility much more effectively for sure. They are the next best thing to meeting up. Glad you had nice moment there and I hope it works out with this woman Beachead 1
Skillchecker Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I couldn't agree more with this. I try to make an effort to get at least one phone chat out of a new person in the beginning. But ive found that a surprising number of women these days hesitate on it. One even told me shes phone shy (whatever that means). So much can get lost in translation from texting alone. But the few that do talk on the phone usually peek my interests the quickest.
triniechu Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Yeahhh texting gets a bit Ehhh! The guy I'm talking to now, started talking on OKcupid and we exchanged numbers. We texted for a bit and then that same night called me. It's so much better when you get to hear that persons voice and get to know them that way. I definitely enjoy it more than texting. I've always been a phone person, so I get excited when a guy calls me. Luckily my guy now, enjoys talking on the phone with me 2

I eliminate those women quick because texting is only for when I am at work. When I am home the phone is how I prefer to communicate

Clockwork Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Good to hear people still use a telephone for...............talking. Who'd have thought? There was a thread a while back where a guy couldn't understand where this girl was "at" with him because she wouldn't respond to a text right away. I told him to put his phone down. Then pick it up. Then dial her phone number like a grown man as if he still had testicles (do young guys have that anymore?). Honestly, I hate texting with a blind passion. I don't do it. Call me and talk to me. It's that simple. Funny how we went from a telegraph to a telephone back to pretty much a telegraph again.
