Well, I took a management trainee job a couple weeks ago, and I quit  because I felt out of place there and didn't think it would work out. The job I had before (part-time salesperson) was not filled after my absence, so after hearing about my leaving the new job, the manager suggested that I come back. I felt weird about it because she was going to be exiting soon and I was uncertain what would happen with a new manager. But, she talked me into it, and well, I really had nothing to lose.

So, I'm back, and tomorrow is my first day with the new manager. I feel nervous, but from what I've heard about her, she's a good person. Anyway, this is only going to be a couple days a week. I'm looking for another part-time job to do in addition to this one until I can figure out what in heck I want to do with my life. I think I'd still like to do management, just not for a drugstore. It wasn't the drugstore part I didn't like so much - the management was bad, and I didn't want to be a part of it. My dad actually knows a manager of a competing chain - I went to talk to him and he may be able to arrange a part-time job for with them. Maybe, if I get into it at a lower level w/o so much pressure, it may be something I'll want to pursue for full-time. But, for now, I'm just looking for something to fill in the gaps. It's tough because the store I'm at now wants me for weekends, when most other jobs want me, too. I had tried to do a second part-time job as a library clerk several months back, but it was very difficult to work out schedules - they kept changing and upping hours at the library and it interfered with my work at the store. Anyway, I'd like to hear from those who have managed to work two or more jobs at once. What kind of jobs did you have, and how did it work out?

i work full time through the week 9-5. i do teach swim lesson and lifeguard PT on the week ends and some evenings.

my Pt is very flexiable, so it is not to much work pressure.

when i was in school, i also worked 2 ither jobs. that sucked. i worked from 4 am, school at 8:30, then worked again at 3 -10. i was always tired and eventually my boss and i at #1 job( the 4 am one) we mutually deceided it would best if i quit.

yu just have to have the time. the time to commit and the ability to turn down fun things for work.

it does suck at times, but my pay checks make it worth it.

i worked 2 jobs for quite a while and i ended up burning myself out...but it's weird cause now that i am only working my fulltime job i don't know what to do with myself on the weekends or during the week..

i worked monday thru friday 8 to 4:30 management and then i would work weekends whatever time they scheduled me for and during the week i would work from 6 to 11 at least 3 nights during the week and on really busy weeks i would work everday.....then i just got to the point were i said i was tired of working and ended up quiting my part time job.

I work a full time job as a nurse. Being the busy season right now with flu and pneumonia hitting hardest, I do work OT!

I do research and stats for Infectious Diseases doctors as well!!

Work is my sanity, work is my life and has been for 30+ years! I can walk into work and leave all of the personal problems at the door! it is something you develop over time!

On days off I am busy with studying for my advanced degree!

NTB~ i agree, when i DO have a free week end, or day, i am beside myself with boredom!

I don't but bf does- plus he has part custody of his son.

He waits tables at a very upscale rest in addition to his day job. He does it by requesting what days he wants to work. Fortunately, he's like one of their top waiters so they work around his schedule always.

Since he is a teacher he gets off work early enough to report to the next job.

It works out well for him but sometimes he will have a stretch of 5 nights where he works both jobs. Sometimes he doesn't get finished with the wait job until 1-2 am. Then if he has to get up at six to teach school it can be a drain!

Yeah its good when you have boring weekends but dont you ppl have that clause with the full time job that you cant have any other employment. My full time job has this clause and sometimes i think it would have been better had this clause not been there

my full time job doesn't have that clause i mean as long as i show up on time and do my job right and put in the hours than i don't think they should really care if i have a second job.....i mean .......if you or i want to have extra $$ to burn then why should they tell you or i that we can't work another job......that is the first i have heard of that.

I am surprised that you ppl dont have that clause..its good that you dont have ..but there is a reason to put that ..you might take up second work which might be in conflict of interest of the first job..secondly you can reveal the business secrets of your first job...the other one might be that some other firm might give you job only cause you were working in the first firm and try to leverage upon that....

Actually the thing is that if you take up a job secretly then your firm might not be able to know it but if it comes to their knowledge they might invoke the contract that you sign while getting the job. This clause is there but we dont know cause we dont read the rules...try asking your HR deptt and i am sure they will tell you about this.. :)

my work place has a "Conflict of Interest Clause". which requires Approval for any other outside work a full time employee wants to do. mainly because our company does alot with builders and contractors, and Our company does not want it's employees to share info, that could compromise or influence the business.

I work as a server at an upscale type of place 3-5 shifts a week (lunch or dinner), watch my godson 3 days a week (8:30-3:30) and have a son, which I think is a job within itself! Honestly, I never have time to myself and feel a great need to go on vacation, which won't happen anytime soon!

Thank you all for responding. It sounds like doing two jobs may be more stressful than I originally thought, but hey, I'm young, I can handle it! I will try, anyway. I have a couple of leads, but nothing definite yet. I don't know how to tell my boss, or even if I should. I could tell him that I'm just looking, I guess, and that I'm going to make sure I leave Fridays and Saturdays open for working at the store. Maybe he will have some suggestions. He knows that I'm eventually going to have to leave for something full-time anyway, but he nor I knows when that will be...

I would have loved to have a second job ..mine this full time job doesnt give me any chance to meet anyone..i just keep working on my own and the only interaction i have is in the meetings..

i would have loved to work in bars and pubs where you get to see so many ppls but alas *sigh*

hey green...

my second job is in a shoe store and i mean i do get to meet allot people some of them great people but man when you get that one looney then that can put a whole damper in the situation of working a full shift. some people and i am not saying all they just don't know how to act like my mom would say. they think because your there you have to deal with all their problems i mean i am there to sell you some stuff maybe talk about the news but telling me that you have a third nipple or that you had to much mayo on your sandwich and now you have a massive pimple on your rear is just too much info for someone you just met.

so some days it has it's up and some days they are just really twisted

Oh, I know what you mean. I work as a jewelry saleswoman, and it seems like on Saturday especially, my customers are either really weird or really mean. I don't know what it is about this store that attracts these people. I've worked in Wal-mart and a couple of the big chains during school, and I've never encountered this. It's a nice store in an affluent part of town, but generally, our customers want something nice for nothing, and they get intimidated easily when they see the high prices and realize that I won't barter with them.

My boss said he would get me a part-time job at a bar he goes to - this was months ago - and I never heard back them. Now, I'm kinda glad because I know I'd run into some weird and pushy ones there - with that on top of my current job, I'd be crazy by the end of the week!

I have three jobs and it is starting to take a toll on me.

I have my full time job 8-5 and then for the tax season I work evenings 5-9 and then on weekends, then on Sundays I clean the office.

Sure I am making great money, but I have no me time.

I love all my jobs and the money, but it is getting to be tiring.

I miss when hubby was able to work full time. :o
