I was wondering if anyone else has tried the so-called "homeopathic remedies" to treat colds (i.e. Airborne, Zicam, etc.). I used Zicam a few months ago and thought it worked alright. My cold lasted almost as long as it usually would, but it didn't morph into one of those full-blown-don't-make-me-go-to-work-damn-it! sort of things.

The other night I knew I was getting another cold, and now here I am with a stuffy nose and more Zicam...and hopes of seeing my bf this weekend are now dashed. :(

Anyone have any thoughts? Or know of any potential interactions? (I didn't see any on the label, but I use oral contraceptives so I worry about these sorts of things.)

Oh My Gosh!!

I'm so excited to tell you...I tell everyone

Go to the grocery store and in the tea isle they have a tea called throat coat.

That is what it's actually called...Throat coat.

It sooth the throat and gives the voice back if you have any kind of problems there. Also, I take it when I feel a cold coming on or someone I know has a cold and I don't ever get it.

My whole family uses it and has used it for years.

Try it. You'll love it!

It does taste like black licorice but after drinking it for a week somehow you love the taste!!!!

GOOD LUCK!

vitamin C, in the form of either salsa or pico de gallo -- must be fresh! The chemical heat from the jalapeños or chilies will clear your sinuses, the tomatoes and lemon juice contribute the vitamin C and the whole concoction clears your taste buds. only bad thing is that it's short-acting, so you'll need to eat copious amounts for a long-term period.

another good OTC remedy (for me, anyway) is Coca-Cola: I don't normally drink soda, but this is about the only time I will. The bubbles and caffeine clear my head, and the sodium is the only thing that will cut my hydration. One can will "fix" the dehydration problem so that I can switch over to water or tea instead of sucking down soda ...

my husband hates this, calls it a Mexican folk remedy, but I also swear by Vicks VapoRub. I'll put some on a Q-tip and run it around the inside of my ear (not all the way in, just about 1/3 of the way in) and let the fumes thaw out my head. Works wonders for sinus problems, too. (Before anyone grosses out, be aware that I don't do anything else with the stuff, unlike a former college roommate, who said her granny used to feed it to her and her sibs by the spoonful --:sick::sick: )
