I am in need of my spare key from ex due to the fact i will get charged if i dont get it or possibly not get my deposit back. we have been broken up for 3 months(although just went NC about 20 days ago) and I remembered when we last hung out that she still had my key on her key ring. i texted her today a brief text saying "hey im gonna need my extra key back that you have i need to turn it in by friday, if you could leave it under my mat that would be great thanks" I sent that early in the day and i got no response. Im mostly doing this because i heard through the grapevine that she is moving to another city soon.

I sent this wednesday. should i wait til after thursday to text again if she doesnt leave it or just see if tomrrow it is there.

If she doesnt leave it tomorrow what course of action should i take? should i text again?

advice would be much appreciated

thanks

Why not? A key is still a key. I think if you explained the situation they'd let it slide. Plus the change the locks on apartments a lot anyway after a tenant leaves just in case.

No need to make such a big deal over a key. If you really are that desperate just drive over to her place and get it in person.

You should consider that key lost when she dumped you, it was wrong to text your ex to ask for it back. Never text her again.

Others loose houses and cars when they break up and you make such a big deal over a key, imo it was just a reason to reach out to her.....

Get a spare key cut, and contact the landlord to advise them of your action. Done.

How much will it cost to get the lock changed? Apartments do tend to jack up that cost but they can't take the risk that someone will break into the new tenant's apartment. If it's not too much, it may be worth it just to not have to chase her.

Stop texting. Call her. Say I'm coming over in an hour to get the key. Pick it up & be done with it.

No, don't text her again. Wait and see if she leaves it. If she doesn't, suck it up and take the penalty your landlord will charge you for a lost key. It's like, what, no more than 20 bucks, I assume? I bet most of their tenants end up losing a key. It's not a big deal. Just pay the fine.

You seem to be using this as an excuse to contact her. Don't do that. Leave her alone and move on.
