hi guys i would appreciate any feed back

here is the thing, we have had allot of changes and one of them being our manager. i will make this short. he is out today for personal reasons and he does the payroll but he called and said to over look the time clock sheets (where we are "required" to punch in and out) and pay us the same amount of hours as the week before. and when he comes in the following week he will adjust the hours. now call me crazy here but isn't this illegal i mean i worked over time this week that passed and the week before that one i didn't that means i won't be getting paid for my over time.

i want to take this up with his superior but i am sure the guy nows the deal already because before he came into my dept he would do the same in his last.

what should i do????

man i feel like i just got jabbed in the face..........

As long as he pays you the following time IN FULL, I'd be cool with it.

this is common practice unless it gets outta hand or occurs too frequently.

you'll eventually get paid. there is nuthin' you can do cause it is not illegal or immoral.

well in my office if the person is out who does payroll we just do it for them. I mean it's not that hard to read the hours from the timesheets and enter that on the computer.

I guess it's not that big of a deal if he pays you for the overtime when he comes back.

To me it would be important because I live pay check to pay check, but I don't know your financial situation.

I dont know how the system there is in your place but we just fill in 40 hours every week in our timesheet ..yes it is 8 hours per day.Even if i work for more than 8 hours and even less than 8 hours i put in as 8 hours so there is never problem like that with us.i guess this system is because the client is charged 40 hours per week for me.

So in some of the situations i lose when i have to work for more than 8 hours and someday i can work only for 4 hours and file my timesheet for 8 hours... :) so in the end it squares out....

NTB:

I do the payroll where I work. I was off for a couple of days, but did the payroll the Wednesday before I left. I simply dated the checks with Friday's date, put them in envelopes as always and had the boss hand them out on Friday. However, I planned the time off. You said that your co-worker had some time off for personal reasons, so this could have been an unexpected incident.

There are reasons that someone else from the office won't/can't do the payroll for this person. My first thought is the confidentiality of the issue.

I don't think that it's illegal to pay you the following week. I think making something of it would create more trouble than just waiting for the next check.

Well it may not be illegal or immoral....but it certainly is unethical.

I'm assuming you have a non-unionized job, and no shop-steward to turn to with your grievance.

This happened to me twice over the past few years, and at 2 different companies

I got the old "oh, not to worry - it will appear on your next paycheck"...that was totally unacceptable to me ...I advised them I need my money NOW!

In the first case the supervisor actually ended up handing me the missing money is CASH. In the second case the manager had to make a trip to our head office to get them to cut me a special cheque.

This is your hard earned wages they are with-holding from you - and you have every right to to demand your money.

Geez, I can't believe the crap some employers try to pull off.

well i got paid today and i am not going to make a big deal of it but i know plenty of others that are making some noise. so i guess i will just see what comes about.

i understand about the whole confidentiality issue but i mean all he does is tally the hours and then hand it in to our human resources person who takes care of the rest like placing hours and cutting the checks i mean if all he is doing is making sure everyone punch in and out and adding up some numbers to hand it in to the person who make the check i think that someone else can take care of it for him when he is out.

This has been hard for me to accept in life. The 2 week payperiod.

You do loose the overtime pay if the one week is short the difference. I disagree the one week should have it paid in overtime.

Make sure sure to stick close to co-workers you trust. You guys need to be talking to each other and keeping an eye on things. Since it affected you two you really need to rally with them. If not you may find they won concessions and you not.

I was working at Tapas Mediterrenean Bistro in downtown Boise Idaho(off state street I recall). I was offered$7.25/hr :( . I said I'll take it. 1st payday its only for $6/hr. I mentioned it and the boss said well we'll fix it next payday and by the way that extra quarter we oughtta give it to you after 3 months to make sure it all works out. I was pissed but what could I do? Being a peasant living in a modern feudal slave system where profits are considered more important than life, so I took it.

Well I never got the back pay and the next check was short a bunch of hours.

This went on for 3 months and ALL staff were getting screwed. It was always it'll get fixed next time we got a new computer ....Blah blah blah. One day the payroll girl started to cry and said she had it all checked out and she swore someone was getting into the computer and and deleting hours and readjusting the pay rates in a downward fashion.

I was in the dishpit and we had a big day, a VIP was coming to eat there, we were slammed and my buddy called in sick putting me on yet another 15 hour day.

I knew it was time to move so during the height of business I approached the boss and said I want the money originally promised and it was after 3 months anyway.

He said you ain't getting your F$%%^ money!! ( We were yelling and cursing at each other and the customers could hear and see us! HAHAHHAHA!!!! I love a plan that comes together.

I yelled do I look like a whore to you?!! He just buried his face in his hands and I screamed the QUIT F!@#$%^ me like ONE!!!! I went out to the grill where the customers watched the cooks fry up the steaks and the kalimari. I grabbed a rotissery for the chickens and placed it on a burner turned the flame on full power and then leaned over the stove and yelled WHEn that get red hot you give it to me like the bitch that I am! Boss led me aside and all the nice ritzy customers were looking on with shock and curiosity.

He said alright you'll get what we originally promised with back pay. Will you stay and get back to work. I said yes. I went outside to smoke and started to cry. One of the cooks came out said it wasn't so bad and I had won. I was the only one who got the promised pay and back pay. The others either said nothing and took it or just quit with never getting their money. And the ones that did stay it was made official that they would just work at the lower wage which the computer has always taken us. many were pooling money to get a lawyer and I had gone to the labor board to get help. At the labor board the phone was ringing off the hook cause she was so busy taking complaints of people getting ripped off. Welcome to the American dream enjoy!
