isisisweeping Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Okay, so I prefer dates where we workout or hike or whatever. I'm really shy and I'm most comfortable with some endorphins flowing and out in nature especially. Plus it means no matter how bad the date goes, I didn't waste any time. I can do quite a bit without getting too sweaty because I'm not in terrible shape- though I'm not really opposed to getting sweaty. On the other hand, I've gotten more new friends lately than anything else. I seldom dress up - only for special occasions- so these guys usually ask me out makeup free and in jeans and a tee at MOST (often workout clothes). But still, I was considering putting a little more thought into what I wear. Now I don't own many clothes - I don't get fashion even a little bit and I get a little aggravated when I have to spend money I could spend on a book or on an adventure on clothes or makeup. I have bought this year enough makeup to do a face - tinted moisturizer, a eye shadow, a mascara, a eyeliner, a lip gloss. (My ex strongly preferred I wore no makeup, so the rare occasion I did, I went to a friends and they did it for me.) So show me some examples (preferably reasonably priced) of what one would wear on a date where you'd be moving around but not getting much sweat-- say, hiking or a bike ride. Nothing you'd really count as a wokout but you are moving. Do you put on any makeup? What should the clothes look like? Do I wear a regular flattering bra or a compressing sports bra (I have decent sized breasts.) I'm short and thick. I'm going on enough of these that buying something flattering might be worth it.
ASG Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I don't really know about the clothes... Though I'd say you can never go wrong with a cute top/t-shirt and jeans or short. Jeans and t-shirt can look nice and appropriate! As for the make up... I would always wear it, yes. Maybe not a full face of it, but concealer, eyeliner, mascara and some blush (which is my usual, every day make up). Maybe even just the Mascara, to bring out the eyelashes. It just looks nice, and not too overdone. If you're hiking, you don't really want to look like you're off to a fancy restaurant, I'd say. Though, knowing MANY dancers, they'd show up for class/rehearsals with a full face, including fake lashes... so... you know... to each his own?
Elle1975 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 As a general rule, show either/or. Meaning, either your legs, or a bit of cleavage (and I am not saying letting the girls hanging WAY over). I wouldn't show up in a mini skirt and a tank top kind of deal. Same thing for the make up. You either show off your eyes, or you lips, but I wouldn't do both. 3
somedude81 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 If you're going on a sporty date, dress appropriately and comfortably. Short shorts. Cute form-fitting shirt and a sports bra. Very light makeup.
mammasita Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Old Navy has SUPER cute active gear (work out clothes). Super comfy, cute and can double as casual go-out stuff. Just bought a bunch on sale a couple weeks ago.

leavesonautumn Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 My personal rule when it comes to minimal make up is at least under eye concealer, blush (which you wouldn't need since you will be blushing naturally) and lip gloss. I've noticed that people who are working out or moving around a lot have a really nice glow to them so don't worry about getting your face all done up. I'd recommend getting a flattering bra and clothes that are easy to move in but also cute (I'm the worst with clothing advice hehe).
somedude81 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Thanks. I think I saw an Old Navy not far from me. I've never been in Here's a link. I strongly suggest the running shorts over the pants.

somedude81 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Why you link that....make me want to buy more Heh Some of the clothes are really cute. Totally off-topic, but I'd really like a girlfriend who'd let me pick her outfits every once in a while.
BlueIris Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) Here's a link. I strongly suggest the running shorts over the pants. Oh, I'm going- nice tanks there. And I've heard guys say they love yoga pants. I don't wear them in the summer though- too hot. I far prefer dating like that, too. For hiking and biking- stylish shorts and tops, cute/stylish but good quality sneakers. Some lycra in the fabric. I don't like short shorts because they distract me from what I'm doing. Earrings can dress up an outfit without bugging you while you’re doing something. Caps, sunglasses, and visors are also worth considering as accessories. For tops, personally, I don’t like tight shirts (they don’t breathe well anyway) but I buy fitted, well-cut tops that aren’t baggy or shapeless. I wear a regular unpadded but full coverage bra, not a sports bra, and it seems to keep everything in place. I like their stuff: Search for "tank" - CAbi Spring 2014 Collection Consider golf clothing. I love it and it's not necessarily dumpy at all. Nike makes cute golf clothes, for instance. There are lots of golf skirts that are cute and feminine but also sporty, stretchy and built for athletic activity. Good, well-fitted golf clothes are a great long term investment. I’d think those could work for the kinds of activity dates you’re describing. Honestly, the guys I date love women in golf clothes. Nike Store. Golf Skirts & Dresses http://www.shop.puma.com/women/clothing/shorts/12200,en_US,sc.html I didn’t wear make-up until I was about 45-50. Since it's minimal now, I use Bare Minerals, which is very quick, easy to apply, not heavy and not very noticeable at all. You apply it with brushes and the brushes are important. Get good brushes if you go this way. I got outfitted for make-up at a place called Ulta. Just walked in, told a clerk what I needed, and she showed me the Bare Minerals kit and I bought it. somedude81 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Some guys like yoga pants because they are tight and form fitting and give a nice view of the butt. Though for me, I'm much more interested in seeing skin. Also, I can't imagine anybody hiking or riding a bike in yoga pants.
serial muse Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Obviously because this guy has asked you out he won't be intimidated if you made an effort. However because you're going on a physically active date I'd put on the tinted moisturiser, water-proof eyeliner and simple tee with black leggings — you made the effort but still ready for a hike. I agree with all of the above (waterproof mascara/eyeliner FTW) but would caution against: If you have flesh colored leggings that is better, those are really hot. Not really flattering on most, and prob not on someone "short and thick".
FitChick Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Try H&M or Forever 21. They have cute, cheap tops and leggings. That's what I would wear on a hike. Wear flattering, feminine colors. If you want to spend more, FreePeople has cute, BoHo type things. Hats are in style so protect your head with a cute hat.
BlueIris Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 .... Also, I can't imagine anybody hiking or riding a bike in yoga pants. I wear them to hike, and to bike, if we're going less than 10 miles. More than that, and I wear padded bike shorts.
GirlontheLam Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Well I am probably a little but weird, but I wear dresses on my bike most of the time. That being said, I am sure you can find a cool tunic and leggings. And Athleta might help you get your fix for active stuff, and fun life stuff. Dresses | Athleta They actually have sporty dresses and skirts. And more typical workout gear too! Extra practical. Especially for your hikes!
maysj18 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Hiking- soffee shorts, tennis shoes, and a t-shirt. I don't know where you all live, but in my state, hiking is a big deal and isn't just a merrily walk through the woods. I definitely wear t-shirt (like from my University) and running shorts (like Soffee's), but everything would be wrinkle free, clean, etc. I would wear a pony tail with a cute french braid in my bangs or something cute. For makeup I would use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream, light contouring, and very very neutral eyes. When it comes to make-up I've always felt that the most important parts are your lashes, brows, and complexion. If you're going to be outside, just make sure nothing is too thick, don't go for a winged eye liner look or a bold lip color.- it just looks silly. Always wear SPF!
