tiki Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 We are planning to go to DisneyWorld in the end of May. My husband is already starting to wonder about the kid's safety. We have a 4 and 6 year old. It's tempting to put my buck wild 4 year old on a leash/harness (which I've done before and don't care WHAT sh*tty looks I get as long as my son is safe). But anyway, he'll be almost 5. I don't want to leash him up. I can't leash the other one up (6) either. When we go places, they often are so engrossed with each other, they oftentimes end up walking in front of us a little far. So beyond the norm...what can I do to keep them safe? I wonder if Disney can help me with this? I told K that maybe we could rent some videos from the library and have the kids watch them. And practice with them until then, punishing them accordingly. I'm just so paranoid of losing my son. He starts kindergarten this year and I'll be a basketcase.
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 Seriously? Did he work there or something? Or should I hire him as a body guard? lol
Pocky Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Having lived in Orlando for about 20 years, I noticed that some families with small children would all wear the same color shirt so it was easy to spot each other in a crowd. Something garish like a neon pink T-shirt.
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 Ahhh....we could all wear tie-dyed.
Lonestar Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Bring strollers or rent them. 5 and 6 year olds do get tired of walking. Disney is huge, and if they're in the strollers, you'll always know where they are. They have stroller parking everywhere, so if you want to dump it off for awhile, you can. Pick a place that you will meet up should anyone get lost. Picking a big landmark in every section of Disney is even better. You could always give each kid a walkie talkie or cell phone if you have a few of them.
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 That's a great idea about the stroller. Especially for my 4 year old. He still sits in the stroller when we go to the mall...lol...but he's REALLY small, like twenty something pounds. I thought about having a meeting place in case we get lost. And I'm trying to teach them to identify 'workers', and to either go to them or another mom with kids. I really want to work with them.
tattoomytoe Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 from what i hear, it is a pretty safe park, as far as public parks go. i would take two very light weight strollers, those little cheapy ones. cause you will be dragging those kids after 4 hrs. of walking. maybe you could make little dog tags for them to wear, some kinda ID to keep on them, with a cell number for you or mr. tiki....and of course bring that cell phone.
Stone Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Noah and I go there 3 times a year, Noah can't talk so I always put my cell number on his hand in PERMINANT marker. ( I don't care if it looks tacky) his hand reads if lost call 999-999-9999 and check pocket in the pocket I have a note that says Hi my name is Noah I have a speech imparement please call my mother at ( number) Scarry yes but I freak out in places like that.. they do have double strollers you can rent for 5 bucks. Oh and spring the extra cash for the dinner with the disney characters thing... it is a little expensive but the pictures and the looks on there faces when Goofy sits down with the little tikes is priceless
Stone Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Have you found a hotel yet? Most disney hotels have cheap kid friendly rooms with a parents private room attached. PM me if you want and I'll send you some links. We practically live at Disney/ Seaworld.
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 OMG You guys have given me such great ideas, thank you sooo much! We are staying at the pop century (I think it's called) which is a Disney hotel. You know they've got this special where four family members can go for $1500.00.
Stone Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 That's expensive!! well I guess Florida residents get better rates. We have season passes for 300 per year. Pop Century is cool, that way you can just take the buss to the park instead of driving. The castle show is around 12:30 that's another must for the toddlers Noah still talks about it. ALL the characters come out and sing and dance. Are you just going to Disney World? Don't fall for the Animal kingdom crap it sucks
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 It's $1500.00 for two adults, one junior and one child. It's 6 passes to all the parks (for everyone) plus six nights there. They include transportation from the airport, but we will be driving. How far are you from there? We should meet up for dinner or sumpin!
Stone Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 2 1/2 hours when are you going? Maby i'll take Noah to Seaworld that week
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 May 28th - June 3rd. We'll have passes to all the parks, but I don't think SeaWorld is one. We could even meet up at one of the parks with the families. Or just somewhere...but that is rather far for you.
Stone Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Oh cool Noah's B day is the 29th, maby I'll take him to a park, I'll just be EXTREAMLY pregnant by then I'll bring Greg your hubby would get along with him. See now all we need is BO kev and EC and we can have a LS party!!! ( they all live in FLA to)
hugznkisses21 Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 my granparent took me and my cousin we we turned 5 and she had us on those kid leashes....the ones that go on with velcro and attatch you to your parent with a cord....now that I look back...how rude! and why didnt we just think to undo the velcro....lol we never even tried...lol
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 But as a parent, I don't consider that "rude" at all. I think it's good parenting.
hugznkisses21 Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 i think its a bit bizzar....but i see what u are saying....it just when u think leash u think dog...lol how may kids are u and your hubby taking? and ages?
Author tiki Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 Yeah, people probably have given me weird looks, but the way I look at it, my son is safe and near me at all times. And he's buck wild - as are most little boys. He's 4 and my step-daughter is 6.
Stone Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 I don't care how rude it looks in a place like Disney I'd leach them to, there millions of people there. I don't leach my kid becuase he would probably take it off and run.. but I wish it we're more socially acceptable. it should be.
hugznkisses21 Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 sorry i didnt mean to sound rude....im not a parent at all....i would defiantly do some sorta buddy system with you hubby with one and u with one taht way it isnt to over whelming.....maybe get those fancy diseny character troller stroller things they have for slightly older kids
greenhorn Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Well this is the perfect situation to have RFID tags though i dont say that implant them on kids but you can definitely stick them to their clothes and one small sensor with you which will replace the old day leash and if GPS can also be combined then you can even let them go and explore the park on their own. Sometimes Technology does helps
