Didn't know what other way to put this. There was this Meetup member that had joined our local group. She's new in town, and non-other than she's joined the group, she decided to put on a "Going away" Meetup for herself as she's no longer going to be here anymore.

I was about to say, "Going away? But you just got here?"

I recall talking to her when I had first met her at an event. She's shared with me a variety of occupations she's currently in and revealed the amount of times she's moved within' such a short period of time.

That being said, wouldn't a "gypsy" lifestyle be somewhat shady if you're wanting to get to know someone "new in town" with the concert that this person could skip town a month or 2 later? Would this be a red flag once you've found out about the instability of maintaining any kind of "roots" in a town?

Sorry to sound sexist, but I think from a man's perspective it would be a great thing to hear, if you are hoping to engage in a fling & not have to worry about any real relationship issues since you know she's going to be gone soon without you having to do any of the dirty work of breaking up.

From a woman's view: red flag unless the woman's looking for the same thing as above.

Well, if you're looking for a long term, stable relationship I don't think such a person would be the one to choose.

But why would you find anything "shady" about it? Some people just like to keep on the move.

I mean, unless she's got a job where her company sends her to different areas to, for example, open new retail stores or set up computer networking, then yes, someone who moves every couple of months but yet bothers to go to meetups could be suspicious. But there are people with those type jobs. Has she ever approached anyone about investing or seemed to be promoting anything, including herself? It is a bit odd, I agree, because why would you go to socializing groups if you knew you were leaving soon. If you just wanted to get laid, there's easier ways.

Actually, it sounds like she changes professions/jobs quite often. She currently works as an helicopter tour agent/Country DJ (by night).

Can't stay away from LS?

irc333, you seem to spend an awful amount of time trying to "make wrong" the way single women handle their personal and dating lives. This just can't be serving you.

Maybe this gypsy in question enjoys travelling, and doesn't want to get married, at least for now. Maybe she will stick to an area when she meets someone who takes her breath away. But regardless it's her own perogative how she spends her life.

How are you doing with that goal of getting along with other women?

irc, I know of a few women who have successful relationships, and yet travel a lot. It especially works with a man who does the same, because they do their own thing, trust each other, and then join each other either at home, or at a new location, working and playing together.

So is the meetup only for people looking for relationships, specifically? Or is it just a general sort of meetup for people with common interests?

Because if she travels a lot, maybe she's just lonely from time to time and knows Meetups are a way to, you know, make a few friends to hang out with while she's in town?

She sounds like a free spirit. Nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. ;)
