When I told my friend I was engaged I never heard back from him. Then a couple of months later when I ended the engagement I texted my friend to let him I wasn't getting married. I then got a response from my friend. He actually asked me what happened why did I end it. I told him we were just fighting to much which is the truth. I finally asked my friend if he would want to try dating again since neither if us have found anybody. He actually said we'll see. I did ask about meeting for lunch before he left to visit his family for a week. He said there was some people coming from the office to the store that day. If he didn't want to have lunch he would have just said so. So is there any I can drop hints about us getting together without asking him?

I mean can't be more direct than that. No need to hint on anything at that point. You say dating "again". Why did it end in the first place?
