Sometimes I can NEVER eat enough and I will eat as many times a day as I can until whatever is in front of me is gone. I don't always eat like this (I am not more than 5 lbs overweight). But I do seem to notice these eating binges before my period. Does anyone else experience this?

YES. Gawd, YES.

I do! My body is so strange when it comes down to period time. I hold excess water weight for days before, and my appetite shifts the day of. I'm not a big eater, but the first couple days of my period I eat a whole lot! Its like I can't get enough food! Its crazy.

Yes. Its worse around that time for me too. I wish there were some foolproof way to prevent it.

Wow! You guys (girls!) have made me feel so much better. I was starting to think I was making excuses for craving SO MUCH FOOD. :)

I'm another victim of PMS bingeing. In fact, I just went through it this weekend, where I eat everything in sight! It usually lasts for two days, and then my appetite begins to decrease back to normal.

If there's any positive to it for me, it's that I generally don't gain weight during those two days. I don't know if it's because my metabolism revs up for that time nor not, but I generally emerge unscathed weightwise, which is a good thing!

So, no you're definitely not alone.

That happens to me too! I'll have a craving for everything and go to the grocery store to purchase potato chips, chocolate candy, ice cream, pastry...but I realize I end up not gaining weight bec. I seem to not get as hungry the rest of the month so it balances out, but I prob eat enough calories during that time to feed a nation! :p Also, that's why it's important for women (ok, men too) to exercise, or else the weight might creep up on you!

I'm in the same boat as Caligirl... I feel fine eating everything in sight those couple of days. Like I said earlier, I don't eat much usually, so my body evens itself out. Plus during the rest of the month, I eat healthy. So a couple of bad meals and candy bars aren't really going to hurt anything.

I've also noticed that my energy drive kicks into high gear when I'm on my period. All I want to do is work out! I love working out usually, but when it comes to that time of the month, I want to do nothing else.

That's funny how similar we all are! That's exactly how I get too, I exercise more, plus I get a lot of stuff done too - paperwork and "to-do" things I put off etc! :)

There was a study done a couple years ago and no, I don't have a link handy. However, they concluded that women need an extra 200 calories/day when they have their periods so the PMS munchies are probably like a mini-pregnancy in that the body needs more nourishment. I, too, go through 'ravenous phase' followed shortly after by 'unhungry phase' (yes, I now it's not a word :p )
