georgejungle Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I recently tried doing the 'eat 5 small little meals a day' diet plan but it's so hard because I'm immediately hungry right after. I don't feel satisfied eating healthy small meals or snacks. I've always been one for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I hardly have ever snacked, I'm not a snacker; I just eat three times a day and that's it. I try and drink water to curb the stomach pangs but just makes me have to go to the bathroom more frequently haha
EasyHeart Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Why are you eating 5 times a day instead of 3? The usual reason is to stabilize blood sugar. Do you have a blood sugar problem?
Author georgejungle Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 No just to speed up metabolism, tone down my intake and maintain a good weight. What I'm trying to do: I'll have cereal and fruit or oatmeal and fruit, then later a fruit and yogurt, then I'll have a small sandwich and some carrots for lunch then later i'll snack on some 100% whole wheat crackers then i'll have dinner at home. I only drink water. But after say, the yogurt and fruit, I'm still hungry and will continue to be until I get to lunch. What I've been doing all my life: I'll have a sandwich, crackers, yogurt, maybe a piece of cheese and a fruit for lunch.

The eating small meals is mostly a myth anyway, but eat a cracker or two when you eat fruit. The sugar in fruit metabolises quickly, so you need something to stabilise it and crackers are good for that.
haribogumsnickers Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 The 5 meal plan is work. The basic 3 meal plan -breakfast/lunch/dinner - with the two "snacks" for brunch and linner. These snacks are to control your appetite from splurging at lunch or dinner. The water replacement for the snacks is one way and benefits you to stay hydrated and remove excess nitrogen.
deathandtaxes Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Yogurt and fruit aren't going to help you much. And I second the 5-meal myth part. There is nothing conclusive about five meals versus three meals a day. Eat a lot of fiber, don't neglect your protein (which it looks like you are - there's some in yogurt, but not in the other stuff) and drink plenty of water.
Enema Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 As the others said, meal frequency or time of day means nothing.
Andy_K Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I eat 5 or so meals a day. But that's mostly because I'm trying to gain, and 3500 clean calories a day is a lot of food. I just can't do it in three sittings.
Trane Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 It's all about portions and keeping your body fueled throughout the day. Snacking in between meals with fruits and veggies will do your body good.
Thruster Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 go back to the 5 meal plan -- great thing to do just when hungry -- drink a glass of water
