AnyaNova Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 So, I was sitting out on my porch, enjoying the night, when some outside diners at the restaurant across the street from me got really noisy. And I cringed inside. You could hear one man telling this long story, interrupted by long bouts of laughter. And you didn't need to be there to know that the man was telling some story about someone else, at their expense. Because you could hear it in the laughter. Has anyone else noticed this? That there are types of laughter and you can hear the difference. You can hear the difference when somebody is being laughed with about a human foible, or the laughter is genuine laughter about a subject that is somehow positive or beneficial, or when someone or something is being laughed from a place of cruelty, from a place of derision and condescension. I posit the former is much more conducive to health and human bonding, and sadly, is much rarer than the latter.
FitChick Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 There is one woman at work, fortunately not in my department, who has the most annoying laugh. She sounds like she is crying. And she laughs at everything, even if it's not funny, which makes it more annoying.
Targetlock Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Yeah i have noticed the same thing there is the genuine warm laughter, the false laugh and the laugh of derision when mocking people and of course the cheeky giggle, all manner of laughs it seems for different situations. 1
