That's great! We had a longer engagement because I wanted to enjoy the planning process. Only having a couple of months would put me in the loony bin! Different strokes, aye? ;) Congrats again!

I hear you. My gf and I are older (40s). My second marriage her first. We were determined not to throw money away by spending thousands on a wedding! Instead, thousands on an awesome honeymoon that we are planning and finalizing now. NO DEBT. So, simple wedding...:)

This August! :D As I've said in other posts, if you're ready to propose, you should be ready to marry. It's crazy to have engagements 1+ years, imho.

Best wishes but I caution on two levels about the timing.

We had a relatively short engagement (9 months) but I relished that time. Our engaged Valentine's day & all that. We never had an engaged Christmas or Thanksgiving. We learned a lot about each other through the stressful wedding process & we had it easier than many.

Anyway my caution is about the wedding gown. Unlike other kinds of clothes these are made to order. Some can take up to a year to create a rush job 6 months. Gown choices will be limited to what is in stick & if the bride is not the industry norm bridal size she will have a tough time. Just a practical consideration.

Your maturity will help.

I totally understand! For us it is our first and we are 27 and 34, so we are having a bigger shindig (partially to blame on my gigantic italian family!). But debt was out of the question for us, too…we didn't want to even touch our "nest egg" savings! So I completely agree with your logic!

Where are you going for your honeymoon??

Thanks. Considered. My gf is very practical and realized long ago that something nice and can be altered would be enough...nothing too complicated. Our entire wedding will be under $2000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are so pleased we pulled this off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful!

I was just sort of shocked when I started bridal shopping & learned some of this stuff so I thought I'd share because I couldn't be the only one who made it into my 40s & didn't know all this stuff. We married before all the bridal shows. lol Thousands of dollars for a dress you wear once is crazy.

WP can be expensive. It sounds like you have a good handle on what's really important.

One other consideration -- I recommend that people spend the money on the photographer. That you can't do over & going cheap will only aggravate you if they don't turn out.

Congratulations buddy. Wish you all the best!

I learned TONS from my first wedding. This includes the photographer! Frankly, they charge a lot more than what they really are worth. A "good" photographer with his/her own quality equipment can produce nice memories for you, so, we went with a well-versed amateur photographer who's work is very nice. His prices are 1/3 to 1/4 of that of so-called professionals.
