I've been always an pessimist person, is that a sign of depression?or it is just part of my personality? but when I do drugs I become the most optimist person in the world:laugh:

Pessimism could be related to mood, and depressed people certainly do exhibit more pessimism than the general population. It could also be related to temperament. Some people are just crabby and negative, and always have been. Sometimes it's related to family of origin. Parents who are very negative can inspire negativity in their children and they model a more negative, pessimistic view to their children, which can become engrained in a child. It could also be related to negative circumstances. Someone who has experienced a lot of difficulties in life could start feeling more pessimistic about the world in general. So I think there's a variety of factors that could cause a person to become more of a pessimist.

I think the question you should be asking is, "How can I be neither a pessimist nor an optimist, but a person who accepts things as they are and works to change and better them when necessary?"

It's a much better state of mind to be in, I think, than either pessimism - which just makes you negative - or optimism, which can lead to being let down over and over.

Drugs will cause an elated state and so quite often when not on drugs the person exhibits mild depression, as they are searching for the drug induced euphoria.

Maybe lay off the drugs and find a more sustainable enjoyment level?

I have always been a pessimist but I have never been depressed in a clinical sense.

Some people in my life think I am a pessimist. I am not.

Somethings in my life have not gone as I was hoping it would no matter how I tried and it does depress me. But I remain not a pessimist.
