I'm surprised they keep pestering you about it if your appear happy in your day to day life. I was skinnier than you based on your stats. My friends used to rib me a bit and I had nicknames because of it, but it was in good nature, and they didn't bang on about all the time. As I got older a couple of them would go on a bit about it. They had seen me at times with extra weight plus also could see it was not easy when it came to chatting up women plus realized my confidence was linked. They were big eaters and bigger guys and thought I should be matching them on meals, and I wasn't serious if I wasn't eating family size pizzas, 2 hamburgers, huge steaks, lots of beers, etc. then it was annoying.

I had 3 women I got on well with and who I really liked offer to go out with me if I put on at least 10kg. lol. I wasn't insulted by that and at least they were upfront. It was pretty clear to me its a negative in the dating market, so I didn't complain too much, as I knew what I had to do, it was just hard work. What annoyed me the most was how women at my end of the gene pool (the ones I was most attracted to) tended to be the least friendly, which a lot of regular size people didn't get as skinny to fat men/women were pretty much the same to them.

If the issue is just your friends I'd have a chat to them that you are trying and friendly support is a good thing but pestering is not. If they sense you are unhappy with your physique or it is harming your prospects with women then they could well think they are encouraging you for your benefit.

Hit the gym. Try to get your anxiety/stress levels under control. Cortisol is catabolic & it negatively effects your appetite.

Yeah I always get the impression my skinniness is a turn-off for women (never any compliments about my appearance just nagging and pestering :( )nobody ever seems to want the awkward skinny nerd, and yes i am currently on a herbal supplement for stress at the moment which does help a lot.

Also i have a camping trip with friends at the beach this weekend and it is bothering me about how i will look in shorts or if i actually take my shirt off, i never normally wear shorts because of that and only today just bought some for the holiday.

Skinny & really pale is not a good look. Skinny & tanned is much better. If you can, get some instant/self tanning lotion/spray and apply it before you go. some take a number of hours to start working. Try find someone to apply it to your back so it does not look like obvious self tanning. With self tan lotions/sprays you pay for what you get, so don't go cheap. Hope you still enjoy your trip regardless.

good idea but probably not enough time before I go, will have to make the most of it i guess :)

OP,

In my experience, it really varies. I've found that people working in my field tend to like skinnier, more slender guys. It makes them look taller and studies have shown that preference towards these guys is positively correlated with higher raises and salaries.

Even if you're not tall, the illusion of you being tall helps.

It doesn't matter.

It's your self-consciousness and lack of confidence that will harm you most, not your lack of tan.

If it really bothers you then by all means get muscles and a tan, but there's still no shortcut to working on your confidence and self-esteem.

my self-esteem and poor confidence has always been my biggest problem :( though it is often illogical and false.

Well i went for my camping trip and had a great time :) managed to talk myself into wearing shorts for the first time in years! still couldn't get myself to take my shirt off when i was down at the beach :( ended up in the sea with it on lol.

As for the friend sadly she wasn't single and had just started seeing someone, nice for her though. but even if she was single I doubt she would have shown any interest anyway, had the impression I wasn't her type plus she was a few years older, and me often getting mistaken for someone younger probably made her think I was too young (i'm 28 shes' 34). never mind one must keep on looking I guess!

Every little bit of progress is good. :)

But seriously, there are even dudes with beer bellies walking around shirtless. And many of them have girlfriends/wives! Don't worry about going shirtless at the beach.

Yeah just me being silly, must be a self esteem issue or something and what i think of myself, would have been fine normally its just those friends and colleagues badgering me about my weight making me feel bad.

funnily enough not one comment about my weight this week :) though just about everyone guessed my age wrong and thought I was younger (i'm 28 most thought i was early 20's) which must be a good thing i guess? :)

Yeah, I get what you mean. Lots of us women suffer from this too (probably worse since women's choice of dress is criticized more). I sometimes do myself.

It's not gonna be easy but you gotta persevere. Early 20s is a good age. Young, but not too young to drink or have sex. ;)

Funnily enough, i did get asked for ID earlier this year :) sadly I didn't have my ID at the time (only proper ID I have is my passport so I don't often carry it around with me) luckily a friend vouched for me as I was at a party.

I'm sure if you created a new thread asking about bulking/gaining muscle there would be lots of posters able to help.

Unfortunately, if you don't do the correct things you can actually end up leaner than ever!! My H is naturally very thin, so I have to feed him a lot of fatty (good fat) foods, then his strenuous job does the rest of the work. It's resulted in him having gorgeous arms, back, abs, and glutes, but still has his long chicken legs. Which.I find sexy!!

Well i guess all i need is for that one special person to find me attractive i guess :) which would make a nice change as i'm often ignored and personally i don't like my skinny chicken legs :( (why i don't wear shorts often) yeah maybe i will start on that thread idea.

Apologies as I have only had a very quick read of this thread.

An old friend of mine was very skinny.

He was at his doctor's about something unrelated - he had had a burn.

His doc commented on his weight and asked if he had recently lost weight or had he always been skinny.

The doc did some tests and it turned out he had a yeast infection in his stomach.

From memory he got some tablets for the infection and I think he cut way down on yeast (possibly even cut it out of his diet for a while) and instantly began to gain weight. I think he put on about a stone in a month.

He didn't have any other symptoms, the only symptom was his inability to gain weight and he always ate loads!

Also, Ceoliac disease can also stop weight gain but tends to come along with more and quite varied symptoms.

Both restrict nutrients being digested.

It might be worth looking into and asking your Doc about.

Thanks for that it might be useful, i always suspected it might be a high metabolism or something, my dad is of a very similar size and has similar issues. i did recently get pestered by friend about seeing the doctor about it.

I am getting tired of being pestered about my Skinnyness and for myself I have decided to do something about it and starting doing some workouts at home to hopefully tone up a bit. I've never seem to be able to put on any weight most of my life.

I would really like to do something about my skinny arms and legs. any advice, ideas or suggestions would be helpful :) is it worthwhile seeing a doctor to see if you if there is any underlying health issues? the idea of seeing the doctor does make me feel like I'm giving in to pressure or something though.

How old are you? I'm 33 and only now starting to appreciate being skinny because as everyone else is fattening up I'm looking "normal". Just wait a while.
