elseaacych Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I was digging through my jewelry box this morning, and untangled quite a few pieces of jewelry that my ex had given me over the years. He was never one to understand my taste, and all of it was variations on the same thing. Some of it, I've never even got around to wearing. A lot of it is just "stuff". I was about to box it up and take it all to a pawn shop, until I saw a (recent) picture of him wearing the gorgeous (moderately expensive) watch I bought him a few years ago. (No matter how hard I try to block EVERYTHING I can humanly think of, He still shows up! Seriously, college alumni magazine, do I have to block you too???? Oh, the agonies of small town/small campus living.) Gave me a bit of pause. I don't know how to get rid of it. Is it permissible (ie, in good social taste) to pawn the stuff? Should I keep a few of the nicer items that I liked? I mean, I don't want to keep it all in the back of my closet, and I don't want to throw it in the trash. I don't have any friends who want it either. When it comes to the stuff I liked, would it be weird to wear it in a few years or so, when he is definitely long gone? Even so, I'm still not sure I would wear it. What are your experiences?
d0nnivain Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 It's your stuff. You can do whatever you want with it, including pawn it. My only Q is will you make more money selling it outright, rather than pawning it? Pawning is more like short term loan so within a certain time if you pay back the loan with interest you can buy it back. 1
Skysurfer Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Funny you mention this post. I went looking through my jewelry box late last week and found a few nice pieces of jewelry too from my ex! I then put it in a little pouch we both bought on one of our trips and pondering about mailing it back to my ex! Thoughts on returning gifts to your ex via the mail man?

Meant to say sell, usually the pawn shop's the only place in town that will take it, and eBay seems like a hassle.
Author elseaacych Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 (edited) Thoughts on returning gifts to your ex via the mail man? If you don't want to talk to them, why? Besides, then YOUR gift would likely be shuffled off to a new SO. Sorry, mine is mine. Edited June 4, 2014 by elseaacych

The only thing I wouldn't sell would be a family jewlery, but since he didn't give you any heirlooms, you're good to go. 1
JustC Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 If you like it and it's actually valuable, keep it in the back of a closet. My ex didn't buy me jewelry but he got me some Bose sound canceling headphones. I'm sure as h*ll keeping those!
