WHY do dumpers keep breaking up with the 'let's just be friends' line??

I stopped using that sorry line when I graduated from high school. My most recent ex used a version of this with me. My response? That I didn't want to be his friend. That I don't believe he treated me very well (he said some really disgusting things to me during the break up fight, the friends cr*p was a week later) and I could never be "friends" with someone like him. Okay, that response was in my head and while venting with friends. I didn't even respond to that stupid, "I have it in me to still be your friend" email.

Oh, how generous of him to find it in his cold black coal heart to have it in him to like your status updates on Facebook the odd time.

And I didn't say anything either, he was crying, I wasn't. And I said, you sure that's what you want? He said yes. I said well, I understand, have a great summer, thanks for calling.

I cried lots when I hung up but I wasn't about to let him hear it.

True. I can be friends. I do, however, cease contact after I'm in a new relationship. I never want to do anything to make my current guy feel insecure.

Then you aren't friends and it's a facade. You don't have to ditch genuine friends when you get in a relationship.

Yes, of course. But if you know you will ditch him as a friend as soon as you get into a relationship, and you WILL get into a new relationship, why bother? It's ingenuous.

I'm a submissive so my man comes first, that's not the point.

Seems the adult choice would be not to string someone along in friendship when you know you will ditch them in a few months anyways no? I don't like toying with people.

Especially true if one is the dumper.

Actually, come to think of it, you've just proven the original post lol.

P.S. when I said you don't have to ditch genuine friends when you are in a relationship. I wasn't talking about choice. You can choose to ditch anyone you want, of course, but anyone

you are willing to throw away like that never was a friend, even if you hold your breath till your face turns blue and insist on calling them that.

Her breakup reason 2 weeks ago:

I am not the type of person that can handle the type of relationship you are looking for. I cannot give you the support/validation you need

The other day I got this over text during a short convo:

"You will always have a place in my life if you want it. You just need to accept that it will be only as a friend."

she has the right to make that offer, you have the right to refuse that offer.

and if she EVER contacts you to ask for your help/emotional support/a favour/etc, tell her "I don't mind going out of my way to help my girlfriend, but I am not going to do it for a 'friend'. bye"

I wrote this down for future use. I did refuse her offer and said maybe someday but not anytime soon.

the reason I say it is cos I often get needy girls who always ask me to help them out and stuff, I dont mind doing this when I am with them... then they dump me, and a month later text me asking if I will do a favour for them...

in other words the person they dumped me for fulfills their physical needs but not their emotional ones and they want me for that...

guess what my answer is?
