I can deal with second hand smoke. When I come home from bars/clubs I always air out my clothes. Especially coats. If I put the coat in the closet then the rest of my coats all smell like smoke. Never felt any attraction for smokers of the opposite sex. Like it has been pointed out, it's like kissing an ashtray.
blind_otter Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 I smoke the marijuanassss. So I can't really bitch about it. Don't smoke cigs, though. My pot-phobic bouncer tried HARD to accept my smokadelic nature, but he just couldn't have a single conversation without a 10 minute "drugs are bad, mmm'kay?" lecture. I don't mind smokers, although kissing them reminds me of my dad

Hund1976 Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 The difference between smoking and eating cheeseburgers and drinking is that smoking doesn't just effect the smoker, all the smoke they expel gets everyone in their vicinity as well. I personally think chewing tobacco is a pretty gross habit but if I'm standing in between two people who are chewing at least my eyes won't be burning and my clothes won't smell like smoke. I think smokers should be allowed to smoke to their hearts content, but they should only be allowed to do it where it doesn't effect people who don't want to breathe in their smoke. For examply if I went for a hike in the woods and pissed behind a tree no one would care because it doesn't effect anyone else, but if I go to the mall and start pissing on people's legs and stuff like that people are going to get pretty pissed since my piss is then effecting them. I guess smokers don't realize how their smoke effects other people since they are used to living in a smoke cloud.
alphamale Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Originally posted by Hund1976 I guess smokers don't realize how their smoke effects other people since they are used to living in a smoke cloud. there is pollution all around us HUND1976, open your eyes. smog, water and air pollutions, chemical, industrial and nuclear waste, etc... it is making us all sick equally. why don't we ban anything and everything that causes pollution. you won't be able to driver your car anymore and no electricity or no more laundry detergent. WTF!
Hund1976 Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 So if while you were out at a restraunt trying to eat dinner I drove some old crappy car with a blown headgasket in and aimed the tailpipe at your table you wouldn't complain about all the smoke?

Then I realize that it's fine because I can move myself away from their idiocy. Well in my city at least there is a no smoking except in bars law, and hey, if you're in a bar, deal with it. And I don't even smoke cigarettes (anymore) - I smoked for 9 years, ages 14-23, and quit 2 years ago. I just don't see the point in getting pissed off about it anymore. My Dad is dying of congestive heart failure and COPD from smoking.

nattfodd Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Deciding whether or not to date a smoker is an individual preference and an individual issue. If someone thinks that she will be bothered by dating a smoker, then she should not date that person. If she tries to date someone who smokes, and the smoking bothers her, she can very well end the relationship. People have given all sorts of ridiculous excuses for not wanting to date other people. Smoking is one of the legitimate reasons, I think.

What if the smoking was the only thing you didn't like about the person? Could you deal with it in light of everything else?
bluetuesday Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 i wouldn't give up a great guy because he smoked. i'd just offer him something else to put in his mouth every time he got a craving.
moimeme Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Could you deal with it in light of everything else? Nope. It's physically impossible. However, as it turns out. I seem to be someone people are willing to give smoking up for. Two fellows quit so they could be my beaux I'm saving lives!
CurlyIam Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 My dad used to smoke a lot when I was very little. Three packs a day of very bad cigars. I was sure I'd take to somking, but in highschool, none of my close friends smoked. None of my bf were smokers. I dated a guy who'd ocasionally smoke, but he was real nice and didn't smoke while on a date with me - although I didn't terribly mind. Funny thing is, I don't know if I'm a smoker or not. I only smoke when I'm really really unhappy. It could be 0 cigarettes for 6 months, could be 3 in one day. Guys... though one. I'd rather they didn't smoke. If I met a guy who did... I think it would depend on his respecting me enough as not to smoke when I'm around. I don't think I'd have it any other way. I wouldn't mind at parties or social gathering. I'm attracted to nice fit men, so yeah, most of those I met stayed away from cigarettes.
