HCG, my mother smoked when pregnant with me (way back in the stone age) and both of my parents smoked while I was growing up. I recall enjoying the second hand smoke as a child and think I was a smoker way before I ever lit up. Although I'm not glad that you have to deal with this issue, I am glad that you shared it. Now I don't think I'm so nuts for believing that I was addicted to second-hand smoke. Thanks.

I've f*cked smokers, but I would never consider them for long term relationships.

Bleh!

You shouldn't have blown smoke up their pu$$ies.

And let's not forget, men have nut musk. Nothing's perfect. And smoke still stinks. :D

No way. I loathe the smell, not to mention it sets my allergies off and I cough my @$$ off. You wanna smoke around me, you put up with my phlegm

Fortunately, Canajuns seem to have given up smoking in droves. My province has the lowest number of smokers in the country - we're down to around 17%. I have one friend who smokes and she won't even smoke in her own home or car. She only smokes outdoors so she's not as stinky as most smokers.

One of my mom's hospital roommates died of lung cancer at 38. It was horrible. Her husband would sit in the smoking lounge puffing away and he'd say to me he had no idea how she got cancer because she never smoked

Yeah, I think smoking is so eighties/nineties. :D

It's just not in style anymore.

I don't remember the Fonz smoking in Happy Days. Maybe in the first few episodes (Not sure) then he turned more PC.

A lot also depends on how often they smoke. There's a big difference between one cig a day smoker and a one pack a day smoker. Although, in the end, they both stink equally.

Yeah they did make the Fonz pretty lame.

But back to the topic if you want to date a smoker then you just have to accept the fact that they are going to smell like an ashtray and you'll be subjected to second-hand smoke the entire time you're with them.

The Fonz smoked??? I think all they did was show him with a unlit cig in his mouth or behind his ear in the earlier episodes.

I went out with one guy earlier in my life who was a smoker.

I grew up in a smoking household- I've never even put one in my mouth. I never realized how much it stank until I moved out of that house and now I'm embarrassed to know that people smelled it on me!

That being said, no, I would not. My mother died of emphysema from all her years of chain smoking. Although we didn't get along and she was abusive to me, it was the most cruel way to die I can imagine. First of all, it robs you from your breath- you start out with chronic bronchitis- at this point if you stop you can avoid emphysema. You get to the point you catch pneumonia every time you have a cold. Then you get to the point where you're on oxygen 24/7. She couldn't leave her house when it was hot because she couldn't breathe. Then she couldn't leave because it was cold. She spent the last five years cooped up in her house- tied to oxygen- not enjoying her grandkids because she was too sick to. The only thing she could do was watch TV and gripe. Spent months and months in ICU- was on a ventilator three times and had to have a trach.

This was someone who loved to be outside, cutting her grass and who kept her home immaculate. She couldn't do either when she got sick.

She virtually smothered to death. I know it had to have been painful- picture breathing through a pillow until all of your oxygen is cut off. :(

My stepfather was a big smoker too- he lost a lung to lung cancer and is not in the same shape as my mother was. Only difference is that he doesn't have enough breath to talk above a whisper.

Everyone who smokes should watch a video of someone dying from this and then if they make the decision to keep smoking then I say go for it but you really need to see what you're getting into.

If it made your outsides look as bad as it does your insides, you'd quit.

i am a smoker, but i would not date someone that smoked very heavily (like 1 or more packs a day).

It does. Smoking causes wrinkles, stains teeth, and stains fingers and fingernails. Yuck!

Hey, gotta light? :p

I was addicted to saving Marlboro miles, so I gave them up. The miles that is, not the smokes.

I smoke and the guy I am dating does not. Out of respect for him, I will not smoke in front of him. If we are at a bar I may have one or two, but he doesnt mind. I would date a smoker or non smoker. Doesnt matter.
