Trnamakesnse Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I'm Male they are Female. Been great friends for years online exchanged info ect. Talk everyday sometimes until bed time. I've written a few physical letters because I always liked the idea of pen pals. They wrote a couple too. But now they say that writing me a letter feels "sardonic". I looked up what the word means but don't really understand. We still talk months later all the time so What did they mean do you think? Said it felt sardonic to write me a letter.
Author Trnamakesnse Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Here's a nifty idea... how about you ask them? Hahaha funny no see i did right away. They didn't reply until i changed the subject. They often do that when i ask what they meant
ayala Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 It's old fashioned and many people these days don't care for it. They prefer the newer and updated technology. That's my take on it anyway.
Lani Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Hahaha funny no see i did right away. They didn't reply until i changed the subject. They often do that when i ask what they meant Then just move on.. Seriously, does it matter?
Cafe au lait Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Yeah, if they still talk to you all the time maybe it's not a big deal. Also, maybe they don't know what "sardonic" means, because using that word makes no sense in that context. Before I found out what it meant a long time ago, I would joke that it meant being like a sardine. 1
Author Trnamakesnse Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 It makes a difference when our only fights are because we miscommunicate. And it doesn't really make sense in the context no. They confuse me or i confuse them. And it sometimes turns into an argument that leaves us both feeling silly afterwards.
preraph Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 They don't know what sardonic means. It makes no sense in the context they used it.

Webster says: "bitterly mocking or cynical" What's the context? Only thing I can think of is the "old-fashioned" twist.......but they still didn't accurately use the word. Non-response most likey means they know enough to know that they don't really know the meaning of the word, and don't want to be found out. If you could move beyond the linguistically bickering stage - you might just discover what they actually did mean....that's possible. By the way.........in my generation, snail mail is still looked upon as an outrageously romantic medium. Words in little screens just stay locked up in there. Words written on paper......are hard copy. The paper can be folded into envelopes, tucked away privately in drawers, (scented!)........colored, illustrated, embellished. It's a physical thing. So........bitterly mocking that process would make sense, if one hated doing it because it made them feel 'old-fashioned' - out of date. And I probably just grew a molehill into a mountain here.......... but it was fun! oh....and one other thing: it's possible the bitter mocking wasn't toward you at all.......just the process of communication.
Author Trnamakesnse Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 She had just gotten a boyfriend at that point. Maybe she didn't want to send anything that seemed romantic? She'd sent a few before even presents.
preraph Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 You're just taking this communication way more seriously than they are. Stop trying to read between the lines and make this anything more than it is.
Author Trnamakesnse Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 You're just taking this communication way more seriously than they are. Stop trying to read between the lines and make this anything more than it is. You'd be surprised how seriously they take their mysterious bs. If I didn't try to read between the lines I'd never get anywhere with any friendships or relationships at all. Useless post is unhelpful.
