So my fiance broke up with me 2 months ago and I've had this questions orbit my mind over and over but kept it to myself.

Is is okay for a 26 y.o teacher to be dating a 16 kid?

I ask this for a few reasons.

  1. Kid is mentally ill
  2. my Fiance is a school teacher

okay that's like 2 but the other reasons are personal and my problem. Its a dumb question but one I wanted to clear out.

It's not ok for anybody over 18 to be dating a 16 y old kid

What is the age of consent in your state?

Posted

Are you serious?

Hell no. Not only is it not ok, it's an effing crime - I hope you've already called and reported this.

In Canada, a 16 year old has the legal right to consent to any sexual behavior they choose. A 14 year old has the right to sexual behavior with anyone not over 19.

So, depends where you live. Not saying I don't find that absolutely gross and creepy though. Yuck. Why would a grown woman want a little boy?

Forgot to ask, is he her student? That would be not ok.

Posted

probably not.

If the kids has mental problems this is even worse.

If the adult is the kid's teacher while in the position of authority even if the student was of legal age it's wrong.

Report the situation to child services & let somebody qualified to deal with this look into it.

Think about what you just posted. What do you think. Ever bother to read a news paper or watch the news on TV?

If you had, you'll see that when a teacher either male or female dates a student and a minor, they get hauled away in the back of a police car, go to jail and have to register as a predator.

That answer your question Jeez.

No. It is contingent upon if it is one of their students, and what state it is.

Actually the state doesn't matter if one of the people is not mentally stable, it's a crime no matter what.

Well they hugged and kissed one night. The parents apparently were really pissed off about that and tried to get the cops involved but they had trouble finding her since they didn't know her full name and address.

Thing is she still reminds in contact with this kid through the game League Of Legends.

By the way our location is Queensland Brisbane.

She told me her self. Also apparently the kid bragged on about it to his parents as well....yea they didn't take it well. She ran and moved locations. She goes under 2 names. One for her profession and her casual name which is completely different and not on record. So they never tracked her down.

I'm from Aus too, and my impression of the laws here are:

16 is the general age of consent, however if a 16 year old is engaging in sexual activities with someone over 19, it's illegal.

It's illegal where I live .

Legality might depend on the country where you live.

However, it is damn unethical for a teacher to be dating a student, for sure.

Very serious allegations if true.

In Europe it's legal. However I'm not sure about a person who is mentally ill, I assume it would depend on the nature of the illness and wether the person is compatible of making that kinda of decision.

If you are concern report it to the school, but only if you are concern for the child's welfare and not out of anger because your ex left you.

It is for this very reason i havent reported her. Yes i am pissed off and very angry. However there is no way i want to make a desicion because of my grief. This is my pain and my pain alone (kinda) i cant bair to put this on anyone else...even if its the person who gave me this pain to begin with.

Actually, in the Toronto area, shortly after I graduated from high school, a teacher got charged with sleeping with a 17 year old girl when he was 28. I don't know why / how they spun it off but I think you're right about the laws in Canada.

OP, all I am going to say is thank god you are no longer with your ex. I would seriously consider reporting it but, I would get someone else to do instead of it being you. You do not want to be mixed up in your ex's life anymore. Chances are someone else will find out and report it themselves, but this makes me sick.

As it appears the young man's parents are aware and the police have become involved, I'd suggest leaving the disposition of the matter to those charged with it, namely the young man's guardians and law enforcement. If they have any questions for you, they'll be in touch. Otherwise, she's an ex-fiancee and life goes on.

So many foolish answers. I feel like facepalming until I crack my forehead. First off this "kid" is probably bigger and stronger than your fiancee. He's old enough to drive and in a year he'll be old enough to fight a war. Second this "kid" is absolutely thrilled to be dating (and sleeping with) an older woman, just as I would have been at 16. You said he BRAGGED about it, now honestly does he sound like a victim or would you just try to teach him that he is? The only trauma for him is the chafes on his cufflinks from all the high-fives he'll get on campus. Third, whether it's illegal is something you could've found out from a 30-second Wikipedia search. In Queensland the age of consent is 16 (whatever age the older party is) so yes it's legal. It's only illegal if your fiancee is *HIS* schoolteacher, not just *a* schoolteacher. Fourth, what do you mean by "mentally ill?" If he has something like autism, ADHD or bipolar he's not "mentally ill" for legal relationship purposes, that would have to be Down Syndrome or something that significantly affects intelligence. And there's nothing mentally wrong with your fiancee. He's 16, not 6.
