Elle1975 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I thought I'd share a tip to help getting over the ex. Me and my girlfriends mainly communicate through text messages, so my ex was one of the only people calling me. I have been conditioned to associate the ringtone of my phone to my ex. Yesterday I changed the ringtone, as well as the sound associated with my text messages notification. I realize this tip won't help everybody, but maybe some of you are in my situation. I hope this will help getting over your break up a tiny bit faster. Also helpful when meeting/dating someone new. 6
Author Elle1975 Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 or you could delete/block their contacts... You aren't understanding my post. I have deleted his phone number since day one. The problem is the classical conditioning that I have been submitted to. While I appreciate any inputs, take the time to read my post before jumping on the "omg block him".
mtnbiker3000 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 You mean you didn't have a special ringtone for your dude?? LOL!!!
Speakingofwhich Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 That's a great idea, Elle! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure it will help some folks who don't take the time to post a reply. 1
JustC Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I used to text my ex all of the time. So, I amped up the texting to my second most texted friend (and blocked the ex). It didn't take long to associate the text alert to mean that a carrying, goodnatured friend was sending me a message. It certainly was one of the things that helped. Oh, and since blocking means leaving his number in my phone, I changed his name to "d*****bag". 2

Thank you :-) And it works great too. My girlfriend actually gave me a phone call yesterday and I didn't associate my phone ringing wih the ex bf. Little things like that help me move forward. I am creating a new routine for myself, since I had to let go of the old one. 1
toolforgrowth Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Mine's in my phone as He Who Must Not Be Named. Hehehe My ex wife is listed as "Moisturize me!!!" in my phone. She and that character from Doctor Who share the same name, and more interestingly, share many personality traits as well. So it works nicely. Whenever she texts about our daughter, I always get a good chuckle every time "Moisturize me!!!" pops up on my screen. THAT'S good therapy.

I am so glad I changed my ringtones.. My phone would ring and my heart would pinch.. And when I date someone new, it will really be ALL new.
FredJones80 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 My phone would ring and my heart would pinch.. Oh I know this feeling, but more with the text message noise. Twitter had the same noise so I had to change it. Every time I got a tweet I thought it was my message tone and my stomach would crunch, peeping out the corner of my eye to see if it was her.... it never was and I was always disappointed 2
jbelle6 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Me too with the text noise! He was the only one that text me EVER on my new phone so ya, I had to turn that OFF lol. Horrible. 1

I don't do twitter, barely am on FB, no phone APP for me.. just good old phone and text.. Mine hasn't contacted me. I suppose it's good. It's hurtful too.
barky2 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 You'll never "forget" an ex..especially if they ment anything to you..and same goes for them. But over time the pain will diminish and you'll be healed. Only one thing does that.... Time. Barky
candie13 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 change the routine, cut out old habits - like going the same coffee shops / restaurants as you used to, do some sports to get some of those happiness hormones running and last, but not least - give yourself time. Full no contact, loads of time & and loads of patience usually do the trick.

And I know I feel much better because of the strategies I have put in place.. the phone, gym, not contacting him, etc..
