My favorite part was I could see other people's profiles without them knowing (lol that sounds creepy). To me, it was worth the money. However if you don't want to pay, the app is still great!

Wow thank guys, that's really good advice. I've had the OkCupid app on my phone for ages now but not sure if I'm signed up and Ive never heard of the A list before but it sounds awesome. I really do need to get out more and meet people face to face, so I'm going to make an effort to find something on meetup. Aswell as join one dating site from the recommendations. Ive been using Tinder, but I've accumilated lots of matches but I dont speak to half of them and the other half! well its hard work with so many different convo's going on. And because the profile is only really short you have to exchange lots of messages to see if you're compatible enough for a date. Its good for being nosey and checking out hotties, I suppose.

It depends where you are located.

I hear that match.com is good in many places but here in Montreal Canada it's useless. I was on it 1 month with a paid subscription and all I got were scams messages from men located in northern States. Up here eHarmony is also useless as well as okcupid. What works is POF, Zoosk and Badoo. I hear all kinds of negative stories about those sites, mostly stories from the US, here those sites are the most used. We also have local dating sites that are meant for people from my city, I am sure all big cities have these local dating sites.

Hi Op!! I met my now boyfriend on OKcupid! I loved it! I met a bunch of nice guys. The only issue I had was that I got messages CONSTANTLY and I couldn't keep up... I know a bunch of women have this same issue. I also paid for the A list because they wouldn't let me see who ranked me high without it. I wish you the best of luck!!

I hear a lot of women with this same complaint. And it's not that a high quantity of messages is a bad thing per se, but that so many of the messages are of the useless "UR HOT LETS MEET" variety.

As you are probably aware, A-list lets you filter the messages. For instance, you can filter our short messages, those with certain words, or even messages from people who are below a certain attractiveness threshold. I doubt many guys use those features, but since I've read that women get something like 20x the number of messages as men, those features can be really handy on OKC.

Was A List worth the money? All you really get is to see who ranked you high right?

If you're getting tons of messages it might be worth the money, as you can set up automatic filters that block messages that you probably don't want to see.

It also allows you to search on things like body type, attractiveness, and answers to certain questions. For instance if you're wildly pro-choice/pro-life, you can set the answer to the abortion question up as a filter. Saves some time.

You can also look at profiles anonymously.

I accidentally bought six months of A-list. I won't renew, because I've pretty much given up on OLD. But a lot of ladies I talk to think it's worth the cost.

Match and okcupid are what seem to work best for me.

For instance, your profile pic should show you doing something interesting rather than a cleavage shot. Both will get attention, but only one will get you the right kind.

This, exactly. I've used POF, OKCupid and Match with good results with all 3. The woman who post selfies of the breasts/cleavage, out partying/drinking with their friends, no messages from me. Nice to look at though; great eye candy. I get message from them stating "You seem like a great guy, not like all the others on here just looking for sex". Well, if you are going to advertise it, expect it is my opinion. Woman, boobs don't sell, many other qualities do.

I like to see a few pics of you, and only you, head to toe ideally, doing what you like to do. Pics of your trips around the world, saving starving children, riding an elephant, a festival with your besties, groups shots with all of your friends, turn me off.

And if decide to message someone, show your p ersonality. REAF their entire profile and comment on something in it. I get 4-5 "Hey there!" a day, DELETE.

Good luck. And to the ones replying saying do not use OLD, I say OLD is yet another option to meeting people, not the only option so go for it.

Haha thank you for understanding! I was worried I sounded bratty. I completely respect guys who were interested in me and took time to look at the profile (not many lol). When my friend signed up she was shocked how many messages she got a day! Unfortunately, I hear men might get one a week... That makes sad! I always spoke to everyone who messages me even if it was something like " ur hot."haha I wanted to give everyone an opportunity but some guys (as I'm sure some girls are) are just creepy and annoying (constantly asking for sex when I have already said no once). However for me, the pros (really cool nice guys) outweighed the cons.

Man here and I get 5-10 messages a day. I wrote a good profile, I took a lot of time to write it, and I was witty and funny with it.

I posted current, real pics of me, doing what I like to do. No fish, no deer, not pics of my car, my house, my hot friends, my shirt is on, no sunglasses, no "look at me" pics.

Haha my profile was the saddest thing ever; I only filled out one category about myself. Once I started my profile, I added three pictures (I made sure none of them even had an inch of cleavage). I got my first message 3 minutes after I posted a picture and 3 more within 15 minutes. After that, I filled out what music I liked and then it exploded. I had the worst profile in the sense that there was no information about me (only my music taste).

That's about my average. But I'm older than the average user (51), and am pretty homely. I get 35 visitors a week on average, according to the site. That's probably considerably lower than average.

Just for grins, I just looked at my last 50 outgoing messages on OKC; 20 of them responded*, and I've dated six of them. 8 never read my message, either by using the filter feature or they just checked my profile before bothering to read the message.

I wonder if those numbers are typical for guys? That ratio is actually higher than I thought it would be before I started counting them.

*One was to say "RU serious? I don't date mutants!!" (or something like that). What a sweetie! :)

Another was more polite, but it was clearly a brush off.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, there's some really good ones. Ideally I'd like to find someone the natural wayand not via online dating, but I forgot to mention I work most weekends and 1 or 2 evenings. It seems like my social life is the oppostie to everyone elses. I can be free through the day but busy at weekends when most guys are free, I think thats why I'm relying on onlne dating so much. I stopped using dating sites for awhile, but have found myself reliant on them again as I felt I was lacking in male interaction.

I go to coffee shops sometimes and the gym but would never dream of approaching someone in there. On the odd night (when I get chance) I chat to guys, but its so nerve racking approaching a guy who is stood with all his friends. I'll try maybe one more free site and give it another rest for a while. Wonder how many people there are like me, I may look into creating a singles lunch/coffee afternoon, you never know........

Thanks again for all the advice.

OLD is a norm today. Natural??? You communicate via online and then you go for a date like normal. Yes, there are differences, but OLD is a norm for better or for worse.

Let me ask you...have you had any dates? If not, what do you look like? Sorry but, looks matter a lot with OLD.

Over the years I've been on lots of dates, but I'm never into the guys that are really into me and vice versa. I would say I'm fairly attractive with a good personality.
