I met my ex-boyfriend last October (7 months ago), we began dating in December.

He and his ex girlfriend of 6 months broke up 4/5 months before we met, however, he was in love with her. He told me that he cried over her multiple times. I'm aware guys fall really deep and it's tough to get back up

Throughout our relationship, he complained about how she cheated on him by flirting with his best friend. He even saw her at a local show at one point (January), complaining about her and her "new guy"'s PDA, going on about how she was a bad girlfriend who uses guys to buy things for her. This led me to believe he wasn't over her and he still cared.

Our relationship was great. I did everything for him, he said we were perfect for each other, soul mates even. We were together for 4 months, we were so close; I met his whole family and that's when things went downhill

He began acting cold and distant, he wasn't the same person he was in the first couple of months and it really hurt me. I was crying every day, to the point I knew the relationship just wasn't worth it anymore. He asked for a break, saying we could probably work out in time. I said what's there to work out? And he goes, "Maybe I wasn't ready for a relationship." I agreed to the break and he began flirting with girls like crazy, I knew I shouldn't be that girl he'd leave on the back burner. I broke up with him about two weeks ago and all he said was, "If that's what you want. goodbye, thanks for the memories"

The following week, I saw that he began speaking to the ex that he condemned for so long. Why would he, when apparently she hurt him so badly?

Any thoughts on this? I hate to think I'm the rebound, and that he was initially never over her. Many of my friends say he began acting cold and distant, probably because he got in touch with that ex-girlfriend. Maybe he just can't stand being alone? Was "Maybe I wasn't ready for a relationship" a lousy excuse, since he hopped right back to flirting with girls and speaking to his ex? We're both 18, surprisingly he talked about a future with me, but maybe he realized it wasnt what he wanted. Do guys at that age really know what they want?

:/

That's terrible. Anyway, live and learn. You are young and there are more opportunities for you. There are better guys who won't just use you to pass time and want to be in a relationship with you. Grieve for the relationship, but don't grieve too long. You deserve much more.

Thank you, elseaacych! I'm doing better, it was just tough with it being my first relationship and all. It was only 4 months, but it still hurt.

Keep your guard up, it's about to get rocky. The phases will begin soon. I wager you are in denial/shock right now. When that wears off, immense pain ensues. Then it turns into pain/anger.

Then anger. Then anger and acceptance. Then acceptance and indifference. Then just indifference.

Dang seriously, Strength In Healing?

I haven't cried, I thought I've been doing well in this break up and perhaps went through those stages already lol! All in time I suppose :D

I shouldn't care about the basis of our break up since what's done is done. Its just mind-boggling is all.
