I'm surprised by how many people are meeting their partners online. Perhaps this explains the level of dating dysfunction that we are seeing in this forum.

Not at all. This is my first real relationship through online dating and my best relationship by far. I highly doubt the place you meet someone has anything to do with dysfunction in relationships.

He saw my profile on a social anxiety meetup.com event I said I'd go to. I must admit I saw his profile on there where he said he was going and that was one of the deciding factors that made me say I'd go.

Alas neither of us ended up going but he must have liked my profile too as he clicked a link to my last.fm page and messaged me through there, we got talking about music and life in general and the rest is history :).

Honestly...on an erotic site. The last place either of us thought we'd meet and fall in love with someone, lol.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine. Outwardly, she seems like a shy, good girl type. They recently got married.

We met on Craigslist while I was trying to sell my old CDs / books (as I was moving and getting rid of my stuff).

It was pretty random, really. We emailed back and forth for about a month or so without any expectations whatsoever. Until one day, he gave me his number and told me it was up to me if he wanted to bring our "conversation" to another level. I texted him after two days... and we texted for another couple of weeks before we decided to meet up.

Well. Unexpected surprise, I guess?

Not necessarily. OLD is a norm now days, so you'll see many more people meeting their SOs from these dating sites. Dating dysfunction occurs whether you're OLD or doing it some other way.

The Internet, the internet, outside my mothers car , the store where she worked, loveshack. The ones that are at least worth mentioning.

Oh, I met my invisible man when I accidentally stepped on his foot. He said "ouch" and I thought "oh lala".

High school, had a math class together.

Which is why I'm repeating all these math classes 20 years later ;)

Met my H nearly 17 years ago at church. We were both shy but found excuses to sit together. And a couple summers later we were "official" at church camp :). We swam in the lake, he bought me rock candy, and we held hands. It was all incredibly sweet .

POF. Totally unexpected!

Same here. :p

Well I actually met my last serious bf before him on POF some years before too, so I can't say I'm totally shocked you can meet decent people there.

Ok Cupid

I was on it for a year and was getting nowhere with any of the guys. My boyfriend ended up being the last guy I spoke to on there before I cancelled the account. He had also been on it for a year, but never went on a single date. We were talking as friends and I told him to text me if he ever needed a concert buddy (we share some of the same taste in music).

Never thought I would hear from him. 2 weeks later he texts me out of nowhere and we text/chat on the phone several times throughout the month. I invited him to a concert since a friend ditched me last minute and I needed someone to take the ticket. He wanted to meet me before that to make sure I wasn't crazy or actually a man. lol. So he invited me out to his friend's birthday party at a bar. We hit it off. Initially, he didn't necessarily want a gf...was just dating around. But apparently I changed his mind about that :D

Match.com

I joined for a few days, intending to try 3 dates then log off for a few months before trying again. My husband was date number 2. Thank goodness! Life is fabulous.

POF. My first day using the site. I had also tried Eharmony, Match.com and Yahoo Personals.

We're married now and I couldn't be happier.

The sample data is coming from an internet dating forum... I only know one person in my life who dated anyone from online. Then again, it's not that popular where I live I guess.

Met my XW at a bar.

In my defense....a) we were in college, and b) we were going to meet eventually, given that her friend was dating me (note I did not say 'I was dating her friend').

Even though it was almost 15 years ago, I remember seeing her for the first time as if it just happened 5 minutes ago.

what partner? :( but yeah these tales inspire me to never give up trying and keep on going with online dating, because you never know :)

I met her in my dreams. She's still there with me. Trying to get her out so we can chat.
