I know that what I did is advised against by just about everybody in this community but I'll let you know anyway

My ex and I are both in high school and both going to college in several months. It's been several months since the breakup and I've been NC the entire time. It's at the point where if we pass each other, sometimes well make eye contact and nod while most of the time we don't

I'm a nice guy and am not someone who won't converse with an ex if reconciliation is possible. The other day I ran into her, took her aside and first apologized to her (I didn't tell her why but it was because I was so heartbroken after the breakup, I talked a lot of smack about her) by just saying I'm genuinely sorry. Then I thanked her (didn't tell her why but it's essentially because I've become a much better person and am extremely happy all the time. I've improved myself tremendously and it's because of her and the perspective she opened me up to). Then I said that's it and walked away

This wasn't necessarily closure because that was something I gave myself a little was back when I was over her and indifferent to her. The reason I did this was because we probably won't ever see each other again and I didn't want to leave this person on a mutual bad note. At least for myself, I'm happy and I'm content. I feel that I did the right thing and won't have a guilty consciousness for the things that I said about her after the breakup (even though she did some pretty bad things)

We all know what it's like to have a breakup in high school.

I went out with a girl for like 4 months, and she broke up with me..I swear I took it harder than when me and my ex of 10 years broke up lol.

Thing is op, you're going off to college...cliche or not, it'll be the best years of your life.

Who knows what happens after college, maybe reconnect with her, but this is the best thing that can happen to you.

Sucks now, but you'll be straight.

Did you do the right thing?

Ya man you did, everyone deserves an apology if you've done something harsh to them.

Focus on college and think about how many freshys (what we called freshman girls in college)... And believe me, you won't be thinking like this for long.

Don't worry about it. You didn't do a douche bag thing. Actually, it was pretty mature. But, time to go back to NC and stay there. The year should be over or almost over for you anyway.
