Really long story short my boyfriend of 8 years breaks up with me about a month ago. He has been flirting and sending dirty messages to a co worker 10 years younger than him and he spins me the line he needs space and doesn't know what he wants. Well today is my birthday and he sent me a card. Just happy birthday, I know how much you love birthdays. Have a great day. Then he sends me a message as soon as he wakes up writing the happy birthday song, hope you have an amazing day and then puts 6 kisses at the end. I text back and thank him for the text and card. He asks what I'm doing and I stupidly say I'm having a great day but am a little sad that I'm not spending it with him ( it was a weak moment) to which he replied me too but have a good day. I was so angry at myself for being so weak that I deleted his number. It was obvious he didn't feel the same and was just being polite. Anyway about 20 mins ago he texts and says hope you had a good day and then cos I didn't text back he sends another one saying or maybe you still are having fun. Do I answer or ignore? What is he playing at?!?

No! This is classic behavior. He is:

1. Relieving his guilt

2. Cake-eating

3. Testing the waters

Barf !!! So transparent!! Please end all communication immediately!!

Probably just a brain fart on your ex's part. He's probably not really thinking of getting back with you, just checking to make sure that you acknowledge he exists. Don't respond. If he keeps pestering you, tactfully say "Thank you. Take care. Goodbye."

Ignore, they love it.

You dont ignore to get attention. You move on

This isn't high school.

Thanks for the advice. Even though it was hard I've just deleted the messages and blocked his number this time. I guess he made his choice and I shouldn't let him spoil my day. I might not be able to control him breaking my heart but I can control how I deal with it.

Once you said thank you for the birthday wishes, you should have ended the communications. I'm not sure what he's doing but he doesn't seem to have your best interests at heart. Stay away.

Congratulations. IF he really wants to contact you, he can work for it.

8 years is such a long time; I'm sorry about your break up. You seem very strong.
