So i finally got the courage and asked this girl i liked out to dinner today (she was the one that suggested it last month, actually we passed this fancy restaurant and she was like "we should both dress up and eat there sometime"). She's a really friendly chick. Anyway, she said yes. She was really really keen on it (she said this twice after i asked her out) and she said she wanted to dress up in a fancy formal dress and stuff. So i said i'd wear a suit and pick her up.

But here's the catch, she was texting someone called 'baba'. Isn't that a word girls use for their boyfriends? (i dont know what she was texting, i just saw the contact name. i know some girls that call their bf's 'baba'). I know in some cultures it's the name for 'father', but we're both caucasian if that helps.

She hasn't mentioned a boyfriend to me yet, and i've known her for about a month (see her once a week and we hangout after class, i have her number but we dont text, just talk face to face).

So yeah, i haven't booked a table yet (i told her i'd call her to let her know a time and date). But i'm now having second thoughts on doing this, i do really like this girl. Do you think she has a boyfriend? I was planning to take her out this saturday night.

Honestly, if it were me , I'd just ask her .

I'd say " I completely failed to ask you if you were in a relationship before I asked you on that dinner date" I'm sorry about that.

Then she will reply one way or another .

As for that name baba , ive never heard of that name and maybe a girl would know that answer for you here.

Best of luck !!!!

Never heard of anyone calling their bf "baba". In my native language, baba means grandmother. This applies to almost all Slavic languages. Baba (or babushka) just means grandmother.

Ya I was going the same direction - grandmother.

DO NOT ask her anything, Youre just a month in.

You arnt taking her to this restaurant as some gift to her. She doesnt owe you anything in return.

Why are you even thinking if she has a boyfriend or not. Just try to have fun with her, either way you'll have fun and enjoy the experience, I guarantee if you get jealous and make this situation a pressure situation, instead of being fun, she'll never talk to you again.

By the way, you dont even know this girl yet. So dont like her already, be excited to know her, but dont like her
