How important is communication/conflict resolutions skills in a relationship or marriage?

If someone has 0 skills dealing with people, you wouldn't have any future with that person, correct? (as in that person runs the other way instead of dealing with problems).

After all, it's a ticking time bomb waiting for a conflict to arise and to be ended.

I have never seen any relationship/marriage that lasted without having any conflict/fight of any kind.

Did anyone have one?

You are correct, anyone who cannot communicate when it comes to conflict is a huuuuuuge issue.

This is why me and my ex ended.

I am the type of person to solve the issue, talk it out, get past it and move on.

My ex was the type to run - he used silent treatment when this happened. Anything from a week to 8 (that was the last time)

People can take time, calm down think rationally and resolve. But a passive is never good.

I don't believe anyone can work like that, the tension would always be there and one person would always remember it wasn't solved.

Thanks.

So anyone wouldn't want to be with someone who ends things without a possibility of a dialogue when there is a conflict.

Are you glad you two aren't together anymore? Because of his lack of communication skills.

When it ended I was absolutely distraught. At that point I had spent 8 weeks in tears wondering why he couldn't just talk, it's not difficult just talk. Then I began thinking a man I'm engaged too and he can do this to me. It pretty much destroyed me. At the time I'd have taken him back, lack of communication and all, now 11 months later I would never go near him again. If I dated someone who showed signs of lack of communication I would end it in a heartbeat. It's mental torture.

I think some people can be with people who will not resolve conflict - but those people are playing ignorant and eventually it will blow up in their faces.

Is there any particular reason you are asking on this topic?

ex was a terrible communicator and ended the relationship the moment first conflict happened. I'm trying to verify that this had no future from the beginning. I'll probably never waste any more time on people who expect me to be a perfect person who never gets upset. At the time, I was sad, but now I'm thinking logically that it was a going to end one way or the other. Glad it happened sooner. You agree?

I do definitely agree. In my relationship it got worse and worse. The communication got worse, the silence went on longer and longer.

It could well have been the same for you in the end. Thank your lucky stars it's over. I know I do now :)

Npoe to the first question.

Yes to the second.

I prefer a happy relationship to one I am unhappy in and unable to even communicate about. There's no point in the latter.

It's probably the most important factor in maintaining a long term thing.
