onlyjs Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 It wasn't that funny. Yikes. The answers are better than the question.
LBlanc Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 ...until some thug with a gun robs you, and you're forced to walk home without shoes... LOL oyy...in my neck in the woods its those people dating in the dark who ends up doing the robbing...
Author LordVader Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 I'm poor by the standards around here, and I just have a little bedroom without a sofa or even a chair (I should get 1). I just don't figure a girl would like that much. But compared to people in slums, I live like a king. Too bad we all aren't happy with what we have, because compared to most of human history, we are doing great.
IdontPlayanyGames Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Im from the slumz. as slummy as merica gets anyway. Sex is abundant from a young age because of lack of parental supervision. Once people start getting older things change. The prettier girls either get with a rich guy OR they start selling their bodies/getting sugar daddies. The more ambitious guys go away to school/get involved in crime. And that money brings them women. The lazy dudes and ugly chicks are left behind so they get together. A lot of the older lazy dudes choose to prey on teen girls cuz theyre too stupid to know better. When youre poor love isnt really your main mptive in life. money is. so the smart ones are too focused on getting cash to worry about dating.
ThatMan Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Im from the slumz. as slummy as merica gets anyway. Are we talking about fifty dollars monthly rent kind of slum? Just curious. For some reasons I suspect that LordVader is on a different page. I don't think he's been to anyplace like Kesington, Philly.
acrosstheuniverse Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I imagine that relationships often move a lot faster than they do in more affluent areas. Partly, I imagine it's due to the sharing of resources. When you're really struggling for money it's so tempting to quickly shack up with somebody to halve your expenses, as long as it feels right between you both. I work with a lot of vulnerable people who are destitute and have no hope of ever really having any earning power and it's almost the norm to meet somebody, start a relationship and be living together a month later. Also when you have ambitions and goals that are actually possible and that many of us take for granted, such as reaching higher education, getting a good career and aiming for promotions etc. I reckon relationships and eventually marriage for those that want that are seen as having to align with those goals, fit into your life trajectory. So for me, I would like marriage and children but only once I had been with somebody for several years, the kids thing not until I am established in my career which will be at least 30 now. If I had already achieved the highest possible level of job or education I was realistically able to gain then I guess the next logical step would be to have a family because there'd be nothing else left to aim for.
