Joanna was bragging about the Valentine surprise that she’d prepared for her boyfriend on the V-Day. Andrea gave a long and whinny talk on the phone about not having found the right Valentine gift for her babe. Some other girls were so engaging when talking about that ‘so-called’ special day. I sometimes wonder why Valentine draws most girls’ attention and not boys’. Maybe the fact that Valentine is all about the hearts and the reds is what makes February 14 meant for girls.

ANY COMMENTS?

Girls, (especially young girls) can be very emotional creatures. They think Valentines Day is the time when their boyfriends should be declaring their love.

Personally I think Valentines is a huge rip off, and no, I'm not being dog in the manger here. I have a bf, he tells me he loves me every day, I don't need one day a year for him to go out and buy me flowers/cards/chocolates/champagne and waste his cash on me. I'd rather he just kept telling me he loved me every day, and we stayed happy together. Of course, if he turns up with all of that stuff - well I'm not completely stupid, I'm going to say "Thanks darling." ;) ...and toddle off to pop the champagne cork.

I've heard of couples who hardly say a word to each other all year, then think they can make up for it by shoving a card at their partner on 14th Feb. That's crap.

I guess it's quite a bit of fun for the young 'uns. Maybe I'm just too old. lol. ;):p

Valentine's Day was very different a long time ago. If you are interested in history do a google search.

Now...in America...it's about buying dorkey cards and crappy little diamond heart necklaces (which, by the way were gathered by the ultra-poor in some third world countries).

It is cute for 3rd graders, but for adults?

Save your money. Make a card...make it funny and cute. Whatever...this "holiday" in America is all about selling a bunch of crap.

And this from a died in the wool George Bush fan.

Valentine's Day is about MONEY. For the retailer.

I hate when I see diamond commercials that say 'tell her you love her with diamonds'.

How about you tell her you love her with laundry? Picking up your crap. Rinsing your plate and loading and (gasp!) running the dishwasher?

once again you are correct CURVYGURL, but u need to take it one step further. how does a retailer get the money??

by pandering to the romantic needs, wants and desires of females! that's how.

most dudes i know would not care less if V-DAY was taken off the calendar entirely!!!

Yes, make it a partnership... not just one day, but everyday. Show how much you care by taking responsiblity in every area of the house, and make it so much better in the bedroom (or whatever area you prefer :p )

Glad to to hear others are not impressed with Valentine's day. Years ago I was married on that day, no longer married, and I realize now that one day means nothing....its commercial. Me? Cynical? Never. I'm glad it happened so I could wake up and realize it was just that, a DAY. What really matters is what happens every day with the one you love. :) I do give my girls a little something and wish them a happy valentine's day but we don't make a big fuss of it. When they were little we'd bake cute cookies w/frosting, etc. I am currently with someone who is THRILLED that I'm not enthused or expectant of anything for Valentine's, we both agree its just a day. The advertisements for diamonds and rings are ad nauseum up until that day, ughhhhh. What kind of suckers do they think guys are? (oh wait, my ex REMARRIED on Valentine's day, maybe it will work for him a second time around. *grin*)
