So I was wondering what the typical reaction would be if your first dated turned out to be at Denny's, that ever so popular chain food place all over the US.

Would you show up for the date? Or ditch / make an excuse to avoid it?

And if you do end up going , what would be your expectations?

It wouldn't bother me. Some Denny's actually offer beer. Nothing like a cold one and a Moon over my Hammie!

I can see where some women would be put off. But, it's reasonable and if you're doing okay conversationally, they probably won't kick you out (depending on time of day).

Only if it's for breakfast! I love Moon Over My Hammy!!!

I would politely decline.

But I am an admitted snob who does not eat at chain restaurants...

Frankly I'd prefer IHOP but I'd definitely go .

Why? Honestly, I've never had a first date and Denny's so I'd be curious to see how it went. I'd look at it as something quirky and different and a sign of someone unconventional.

On the other hand, I'm young so my expectations are well, low. Okay maybe not low but certainly tailored to the demographic I date. Most guys I date are in college, bordering on broke and I'm personally not into fancy restaurants so a diner wouldn't be off putting to me. I mean, a date is supposed to be about two people getting to know one another, not the venue.

For an OLD 1st meet, I'd go. At least it will be safe & well lit.

If it was a breakfast 1st date maybe.

If it was a dinner date, . . . .I'd try to talk him into going somewhere else & if that didn't work he'd have to be incredibly interesting to get me to agree to a 2nd date.

Denny's is a drunk muchie late night or breakfast place to me, not somewhere I eat dinner so it would be a point of incompataibilty unless other factors indicated otherwise.

A buddy of mine took his wife to the Sheetz for their first ever date. In case you don't know, Sheetz is a chain of gas stations with stores across the Mid-Atlantic portion of the US. They have a little grill and serve fast food.

Sheetz < Denny's

Point of the story, you might bag a husband out of it.

Ahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Sorry. I'd pick anything else over Denny's, just because it seems so... cheap.

Example, I'm supposed to go on a second date with this girl at her favorite sushi restaurant. I don't even like sushi, and I wont be ordering anything, I just wanted to see her on a date with me enjoying her favorite food at her favorite place on me.

Denny's though.... that's like 3 am post sex " I want pancakes " kind of food.

Of course I'd go. If I'm interested in someone, the location of the date isn't going to erase that.

I would wonder why he chose Denny's over a coffee shop or an equally cheap but less chain-y restaurant (hole-in-the-wall ethnic food establishment of choice.).

And if we ended up hitting it off, it would probably be a fun joke for down the road. In general, though, I have no problem with free or cheap first dates (and even when they're cheap I offer and expect to pay my half), but a little bit of creativity is always appreciated.

I once went on a first date with a guy, and in conversation prior to the date I had mentioned my love of fish tacos. He took me to the Mexican town in his city and we hopped from one hole-in-the-wall tacqueria to the next and tried a fish taco at each one. They were roughly $2 apiece. One of the cheapest and coolest dates I've ever been on.

Aw, c'mon, you have to order SOMETHING! I'd feel so weird eating while my date sits across the table from me with nothing! What about shrimp tempura? It's just tasty, crispy deep-fried shrimp. Most Japanese places have it!

She'd be more turned on if you went to Dennys and ate something. Women hate that kind of self sacrifice.

I don't have much respect for snobby women. I don't think I'd take her to Dennys the first date but if she's gonna sit around with a puss on her face when I go to Wendy's there isn't much of a future here.

With the right company any place can be entertaining nothing wrong with Denny's I don't get why some feel entitled to a expensive date right off the bat after all are you dating his wallet or him? more lavish outing's can always come later as a treat for the both of you if things work out..

There isn't any that restaurant offers that I'm going to eat , so I'll just get a beer.

I'm curious as to why you'd want to take somebody to Denny's. Are you trying to be quirky or is there something you legitimately want there?

What's quirky about Denny's? if you think about it what dose every one say is a good 1st meet up? coffee and small talk right? Denny's hits the mark on both plus as some one else said its well lit and quite public. To me it fits the bill perfectly I mean unless there's some need to impress by over paying for a flootys tootsie cup of designer coffee..shrugs..lol

I swallowed a staple at a Denny's once. Now the smell of them makes me nauseous.

I know that's not particularly relevant to the topic but just thought I'd throw it in there.

Why would you take someone to a Denny's on a date? Track lighting is not anyone's friend.

Well, if you were to get nothing else, you SHOULD get your staples!

(See what I did there?)

I'm doing fine so far. As long as Joe doesn't tell us what he did in a Denny's bathroom. (Probably posts here while on the can). :)
