The 'dude I'm seeing' (ie not my boyfriend but more than a friend) is a rather... well...progressive man.

He frequents sites like democracynow, indymedia.org, guerillanews, adbusters, etc. He's very anti capitalism and will probably roll his eyes at the idea of a Valentine's Day gift, but I can't help but want to get him something meaningful.

Haven't a CLUE what the heck to get a man so embroiled in politics, who cares more about the state of Women's Rights in Afghanistan than what the score was on the Falcons game. He abhores anything to do with sports and is already grumbling about what a waste of air time the Superbowl is. He doesn't not watch tv and listens to NPR.

HELP. ME.

LOL!

Thanks in advance!

I often skip over your comments, alphamale because I never know if you're serious, and you tend to be an ass.

Is this a serious suggestion? If not, how about some actual help?

Does he have an MP3 player? If so, he may enjoy a certificate for Audible. It allows you to download shows from NPR directly to your MP3 player so you can listen to them at your own convenience (audible.com).

A book (Noam Chomsky for non-fiction, William Burroughs for fiction) or a Billy Brag CD - if he doesn't already have it he'll really like "Workers Playtime".

I will look these up! Thanks much.

He frequents bookstores and picks up Newsweek and Adbusters reguarly, otherwise those would also be fantastic ideas.

If I got him a run of the mill mp3 player and a William Burrough's audio book do you think that'd be too much? I do, but... he rides the metro trains ALOT and I think it would be more useful to him.

I will have to guage his opinion on Stewart... he doesn't watch tv so he probably doesn't know who he is.

Plant a tree in his name?

Do you have a food specialty that you make? Cookies or brownies or like that?

[[[beth shudders at the thought of anyone calling the Superbowl a 'waste of air time.' Them's fightin' words where I live! ;):bunny: ]]]

A tree would be a great gift. I wish I weren't so practical.

Everytime I start to buy something, I worry that it's too much. So I'm going to hold off for a day or so, see if I should just get him a card. I tend to overdo these things. Thank you for the suggestions, they might be more fitting for his birthday. I doubt he'll be getting me anything for V-Day and I dont' want to embarass him or make him feel like he has to.

I will bookmark this thread, tho', he turns 39 in a few months. Thanks all !!!

just a nice v-day card with some words of appreciation should suffice CURVYGURL.

don't forget to put on some nice red lipstick and kiss the inside of the card.
