I know I can call too. But I feel like, "Everyone" is so txt obsessed.

20 years ago before the internet I had "social anxiety" and when they first came out with IM and email it was like a savior for me, but even despite that I always took it to a phone only thing, even for, calling them just to say 'what ya doin??'. Or that I ate a donut.

But now, it's weird.. I have all these txts and I feel like it's them who can't/doesn't want to call.

I do better in voice. Txt turns things weird. Is it flirting? Is it anger? I get too nerded out.... Argghhh!! JUST FREAKIN CALL PEOPLE!!!

Talk. voice... I need that. Yet, I can't just call them, because I'm in tune with THEIR 'fear/anxiety' of the human voice.

Frustrating. I miss the old days. 1990 come back please

Texting is a terrible way to get to know somebody you don't know well yet. It doesn't let you bond. It's not a conversation. It's a waste of time. Who has the time to have a conversation with 8 words/15 minutes? And even if you did have time, why would you want to?

My recommendation: disable your texting services. Simply don't get text messages at all.

I totally agree and also came of age just before phones and texting really took off and had to deal with my social anxiety at the time, only to become confused when nobody appreciated it anymore. Because, they don't. I have been told by many women not to call them only text, and if I disregard that, they just don't answer. Last answerphone message I left was in 2004. I hate texting but people don't leave you a choice. And it's gotten worse than ever now with **** like snapchat and whatsapp, which I don't even understand. We have ****ing Star Trek communicators in our pockets to talk around the world and use them to send coded messages by text and pictures of lame crap. I fully predict in ten years someone'll reinvent the telegraph, and in fifty, the portable smoke signal.

Real conversations should be over the phone, you can't easily convey emotions and meaning through blocks of text and confusion can happen easily. Texting is fine for short conversations but not for proper deep conversations.

We were all "kiddies" too! We are supposed to have used internet 20 years ago to get over our hump, then the rest learn from us. Not do it again themselves?!?

But it's a conspiracy. Some don't want to admit that our generation figured it out.

Couldn't agree more. I think there is a time and place for texting. I'm fine with it if/when it's just short bullets of info like "I'm here" or "Call me" etc. but to spend so much time and energy giving my thumbs a work out when dialing me up and using full sentences and emotion to effectively convey thoughts and feelings just doesn't make sense to me.

I too miss the old days :(
